Mount removal - advice sought.+ Polish Coin ID

3 posts
I know it can be done but I've never actually done it, so I'm looking for some advice on the process from those who have. The coin in question is a very well preserved, centre struck 1538 3 Grossus(?).

It's debased silver with a clear copper content and while the mount looks to be the same color I'm pretty sure it's copper. I guess to remove it I need to heat the clasp until it approaches melting point and comes loose? Can this be done without any special equipment? Advice gratefully accepted.

I'd like to remove the mount so I can get a clear photo so it can be added to the catalog. I have identified it as a 1538 3 Grossus from the City of Danzig, issued under Sigsmund the Old. Before submitting it and annoying the referee I'd like to make sure though. Do I have the denomination correct or could it be one of the various Groszy, Grossi etc. ? Can someone provide a catalog reference and ideally a value? I've found plenty of information but it's all in Polish. Despite spending a lot of the 80s there I never progressed much beyond the "Dzien dobre, dwa piwa prosze!" stage.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Frustrating that you can't add a date!

I'd use something like this: http://site.ambercity.com/images/miltex/hard-wire-cutter-straight-74-104-miltex.jpg
