With currently 1316 issuers in the catalog I was wondering how many issuers do our members have. Before we had the 300 country club, what used to be a big accomplishment. How many issuers is know possible for an average collector?
One of my first goals when I started collecting was One From Every Country (OFEC). I found Numista looking for a good country list and set 300 as my "finally done" goal. Before the reorganization I went over 300, but cannot remember exactly how many. What is important one day is a foggy memory the next.
I am currently at 245 countries and 504 issuers.
228 issuers and 196 countries. I still have many many cheap (under €5) coins to go. Only problem is that one seller have usually just one or few new issuers for me so postages may be as much as the coin itself. A decade ago I bought one coin from 200 countries (or close, I dont remember) UNC set for €60 so got many modern issuers that way.
Now I have organized my coins by continents, but have thinked it would be nicer to put medieval and ancient coins in separate binders. There's quite a contrast between modern unc €2 and ancient Greek coins.
I've not uploaded everything yet though, including my notgeld collection, which i imagine will boost the issuers Also i don't bother uploading my ancient coins here.
Also not interested in non-circulating coins, so that limits the issuers i can get dramatically.
I guess with me, its more areas of numismatics that interest me and quality vs the quantity
129 issuers from 104 countries and
over 70% of my collection is 4 countries
United Kingdom
Australia
New Zealand
USA
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

I am a light weight compared to most of you guys. I have 213 countries and 273 issuers. Lately I have been making an effort to collect silver and rarer coins from around the world even when I have a coin from that country. Still lots of great coins to hunt for.
Silver coins were among the first coins ever used, thousands of years ago. The silver standard was used for centuries in many places of the world. And the use of silver for coins, instead of other materials, has many reasons.
Quote: "Stewartdiver"iiruig well done on that number of Countries, I will sruggle to get many more, especially with no coins shows happening.
German Notgeld is a good way to get some cheap issuers :-)
Thanks!
Yeah, those German & French notgelds, German states and Princely States are the worlds of their own.
Quote: "BramVB"70 issuers, 53 countries (only Europe!)
18 month later
a stunning 90 issuers and 57 countries (only a few more countries to get the whole of modern Europe!)
At the end of 2020 ... just got in about 10 new issuers (French and German notgeld), so ending 2020 with 56 countries (an erroneous Jamaican coin had sneaked in last time!) and exactly 100 issuers ...
Just hate how countries outside European mainland (including the islands on the continental flat, not letting go of UK/Eire) get coloured with my European coins
Just call me Bram
No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!
Starting the new year with 571.
Not sure if I will expand this year, actually thinking about reducing and being more focused.
Have been acquiring German notgeld almost exclusively his past year and may continue that trend.
Happy New Year!
259 issuers from 214 countries – only circulating coins.
Struggling to get a coin from Korea and one from Qatar and Dubai, countries from which I don’t have any coin.
Quote: "Rkwitmer"It is fun to watch it change, but I do like the issuer count better than the bogus country count.
Wouldn't it be better if just the modern UN countries was counted as countries, and all "Non-Self-Governing Territories", unrecognised territories, and former countries, empires, colonies was counted as issuers? Then there wouldn't be any "what's a country", and "why is this a country and that an issuer" arguments. Then we would just have 195 countries, and everybody can agree that that's fair.

Well said. Very valid point

Quote: "Stewartdiver"Welcome!!!
I feel I am cheating by going for German Notgelds 😁
We all do "cheat" with some German notgelds. The bigger problem is when you have both French and German notgelds.
I don't have any French ones, at least at the moment.
Quote: "Stewartdiver"I got my first Algerian notgeld the other day, didn't know they existed.
Nice and cheap on fleabay😁
Omg, I did not know they exist either. There is a whole Universe of notgelds out there apparently that I am not even aware of, just started scratching the surface.
Quote: "Tovarich"No idea how but I jumped from 440 to 444 issuers since the last time I checked even though I haven't added any coins in many many months.
They added/split several new issuers in the last 2-3 weeks. Though I don't know which ones. I also got +3-4 during these days.
It would be nice to have a log of such changes or if it could appear on the list of changes to each person's collections, but there seems to be no interest in this I guess.
Just make 500 Issuers, 210 Countries last week. Been collecting for about 5 years now. Coin shows, coin clubs, coin shops, swapping on Numista, and having a small monthly club meeting with some friends helped me make it to 500 issuers.

Mini milestone for me for coins 130 issuers. I’ve been collecting since late 2012 but became more serious in collecting since late 2019. These are my stats.
Coins: 130 issuers from 122 countries.
Banknotes: 20 issuers from 20 countries.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
