Hello All
This is my first post, and would like to check if this 20 paise coin is genuine since I have seen many versions of of this 1971 coin on the internet.
Many thanks
Sanjay
How do I upload my coin image ?
On the Reply box there is a row of icons above it, and choose the blue last but one on right.
Like I did just now of this image of the Reply box, with orange arrow of where to click ...
Then it asks where on computer to find the image; like adding an email attachment.
Welcome to the site. :)

This is your coin, correct?

Are they really faked often? A non-precious metal coin with an NRI of 17... doesn't seem worth faking if I were a forger.
Yes I have seen quite a few images of fakes on the internet
and probably those were made sometime during their issue and sold at premium due to a rumour that these coins contained gold :)
Compared to the images of this coin on Numista and Ebay, practically everything on your coin seems wrong. Instead of being proper 3-dimensionally, the details are a mere high or low, the rays of the sun are clumsy, the lettering on the reverse is much smaller than on the original.
It looks like an imitation/fake to me.
As far as i know the 1971 proof issue of 20p coin had waves crossing the '1971' year mark (see on numista) and had a 'B' mark below (Mumbai mint proof type), the UNC cemmorative issue did not have waves crossing the year mark and had a diamond or round mark (Mumbai mint). The ebay one looks doubtful to me.
Therefore two different dies were used for proof and UNC issue, I think the main problem to identify is the number of rays which can be found around the sun, some have 11 rays and some have 17. Which one is correct I cannot tell.
The coin in the image you posted is a fake. Proof & UNC issues

I think you may be right the Ashoka (Lion) emblem does not look right and not to scale
Do not have doubts about this coin. It is very very fake!

Rijkdom bestaat niet uit het hebben van veel bezittingen, maar in het hebben van weinig behoeften
Thanks and I agree

Thanks for that info, interesting stuff!

P.S. you might want to mark this post as solved if you feel it's complete.
How do I mark 'solved ' ?

On the top of a thread, above the first post, if you started the thread you should see a button next to post reply called "mark as solved" or something like that. If you click it the button becomes "marked as not solved" or something.

I see someone's already done it anyway.
