new cointypes per year

6 posts
After counting the years in my collection (I hardly get to the 19th century), I also made a little graph of the 20th century coins I have.

Here is the number of coins per year I have (typecollection of circulating coins in Europe, with earliest date as possible ... still working on getting those)

There are nice peaks for new cointypes in 1992/1993 (disintegration of USSR and Yugoslavia), 1999 (mintage date of first Eurocoins, while pre-euro coinage is still being made), 2002 (the real start of Euro), 2007 + 2008 (2nd map). When a more extensive dataset can be added to the collection-download it would be nice to show the total impact of eurocoins on number of cointypes.

Maybe someone with more complete collection in first half of the century can find some more interesting periods for new cointypes (WWII for sure!). Or someone with a collection somewhere else on our globe ...

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!
There was a related suggestion to improve Numista.

Thanks, gave it my vote!

Do you remember what was in your graph? The 2002 Europeak is very clear, but you also have a big one in 1994 ...

Well, the graph that I posted back in June 2016 is quite a slim basis for generalizations, just because at that time there was ~730 coins in my collection, and the 1994 peak was caused by 8 Cabo Verde commemoratives.

What's the peak in 1924?
That part of my collection is still very incomplete, but I'm getting a lot of Germans then: (most common of the 1923-1924) Rentenpfennig + first year of Reichspfennig, also USSR had their new Kopecks. Then also a few new types in Estonia, Portugal and Romania.
