This topic is aimed to Numista collectors interested in FAO Coins... whether only those coins related to your country or from any of the countries issuing FAO Coins, and or specific series like World Food Day, World Fisheries Conference, International Year of the Woman "IYW", etc.
I narrowed my collection to what matter to me since the beginning (Completing 3 specific countries) but ended up a bit bored due to the lack of coins available for swap here in Numista... and later decided to continue with world coins but only limited to the FAO Series... What I found interesting about the series was the number of countries that joined, the kind of coins issues (all kinds believe me), the metal content variety, etc, etc. I think it has all the requirements for a lovely coin collection.
So if you are collecting these babies, get on board and share yours, comment, make offers for swap, etc. etc.
Quote: "HarmonyCoins"I have the 1975 Grey IYW album. How would one record these as part of a collection or swap list - other than as individual coins?
Do you have a photo? will love to see the presentation. I have never seen it...
There are no ways in Numista to input sets in your collection you will have to search for each individually and mark it.
If you have some available for swap, I will be very interested.
Ohh Yes, that's the Album #4, I thought you had a set only with coins from the International Day of the Woman series...
Great coins in that album!
There were issued a total of 7 different albums...
Album 1 (Red Color) 1968 - 1970 (10.000 Pieces)
Album 2 (Blue Color) 1971 - 1973 (4.500 Pieces)
Album 3 (Green Color) 1974 (5.000 Pieces)
Album 4 (Dark Brown Color) (4.000 Pieces)
Album 5 (Light Blue Color) (4.000 Pieces)
Album 6 (Brown Color) 1977 (3.000 Pieces)
Album 7 (Red Color) 1978 (1.000 Pieces)
I really like FOA coins as well. Started swapping for some of them a while ago. I am in the Netherlands right now. When I get back I will be adding a few South African coins to my swap list. My collection went from 28 to 67 coins from S Africa. Also have two coins that still need to be added to the catalog.

Do you mean African FAO Coins in general? there is only 1 FAO Coin for South Africa...
I am an avid FAO coins collector with 80% of the FAO coins already in my collection. I have created a Facebook group for FAO coins. It is mainly to help other collectors learn more about FAO coins and built his/her own collection as well interact with fellow collectors. Hi, there are few of these medals...
I saw them in the token sextion once, but I am not sure if yours is already in the catalog!
they were minted for the FAO which has their main offices in Rome. All of them has the same wording “Ceres” which I dont know the meaning.
they are considered part of the FAO coinage but under medals as they dont have face value.

Hello and welcome!
Your medallions depict Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture; a fitting theme for FAO commemoratives. Here is a similar one (different diameter and metal) to the one of the left in our catalogue: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces23802.html

Thanks guys for your help. I also have these two gold ones. Its would be nice to find someone that collected them so that they were appreciated as part of a larger collection
What I dislike about FAO coinage is lack of consistency. Issues from different countries were struck from different metals, with different shapes and sizes.

What I dislike about FAO coinage is lack of consistency. Issues from different countries were struck from different metals, with different shapes and sizes.
The shape, size and selection of material is consistent with similar coins of the same denomination of the country.
The denomination itself seem to be randomly choosen.
Or is there a certain reasoning behind the selection?
I just looked and I only have 10 FAO-themed coins in my entire collection, from 9 countries; Andorra, Ethiopia, Spain, San Marino, Guyana, Comoros, Myanmar, Indonesia and Jamaica. All are base metal coins, nothing fancy.
Not too bad when you collect primarily pre-1945; since the first FAO coins only came out in 1968, 50 years ago.

It is a side effect of collecting at least one coin from each country! I've got 25 FAO coins so far.
Very nice site indeed, very well documented on numismatics related to the FAO
I personally regret that there is no reference to what is FAO http://www.fao.org/about/en/ and its action, and I would take this opportunity to inform anyone who owns a computer or a tablet that there is a way to support these humanitarian actions without it costing money or time and without any embarrassment.
All you have to do is make available the idle time of your machine to become a link in the world's most powerful computer ever built and dedicated to research.
The idle time is not just the standby time or the time we take for a coffee, it can be measured between the moment a character appears on the screen and the moment when we press the next key.
This is thanks to the BOINC software https://boinc.berkeley.edu/, which completed the "Nutritious Rice for the World" project under the auspices of the World Community Grid and the UN.
Other studies initiated by universities or laboratories around the world are in progress, examples below.
I wish to reply here to bring forward this thread, and all the resources listed so that Numista might take a second and research before removing any commemorative designations or FAO classifications from coins that are or should be considered FAO.
There are a lot of great resources here.

Indeed, a lot of work was done, but then some referees rejected request to update coins information... I gave up long time ago.
This series is very well liked/welcomed by collectors, most of the swap requests or sales I do are related to this coins in specific.
Please find the other thread and point this out. Are you saying that many more FAO coins exist and that refs refuse the edits? Surely that has improved.
Do you have an exhaustive list? I know that the gentleman who started the FAO facebook group says that more than 150 countries have issued more than 1200 varieties. But I would like to see that list. And try to get Numista to reflect this accurately in its listings.

I Highly agree with the above statement, I will give it a try one more time to add some tags or update the coin information....
Always the same. If you are new to the forum you are greeted with rudeness or sarcasm.
No, you are not right. You asked "How" to buy empty albums. Most difficult is to find someone offering them. Mostly they are sold containing the coins.
I guess it is not the first time you like to buy something, so you are able to make a deal with someone.
If your question is "Where" to buy my answer is ask dealers, search at ebay and other marketplaces. I knew that there is someone offering some empty FAO boards at ebay.
If you have questions about FAO coins, Albums ... see my homepage and still ask.
