Annoying Swap Offers

Anyone else get those rediculous offers where someone goes through your list, picks all the special swaps, all the rare and expensive coins etc etc (bonus points if they don't even write a message). And you go to their swap list and it's either: a) empty b) very small (10 coins or so) or it's full of junk? (don't get me wrong, some modern in-circulation coins are collectable to alot of people) I keep getting people selecting ONLY my special swaps/Rares and I only see Euro cents and very modern currencies.

Anyone else annoyed by these kind of swaps? Let me know.

One reason could be since you don't have your wishlist updated it would look to them like they have many coins you may need for instance it says you want over 1100 coins from my swaplist. I do get what you are saying to a point but you have to take some responsibility as well.

I think in the year 2017 I turned down more than 10 swap offers (counting on this site alone), but I don't see anything ridiculous here. Someone selects coins that (s)he wants, but our interests do not match.

I’m with you 100%!

It’s annoying when someone selects $150 in value and their entire collection it worth maybe $7.38
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins

Whitelist aside, this guy gets it.

If you're referring to the "I want this coin" button, I very rarely use it, I never know what coin I want until I actually see one or get one. If this is the Whitelist, then I don't have any. And of the coins I have selected in it, the swappers never had any.

That's not really true. Any good swap start with a welcome message and a few words about what are you looking. Jumping in to select coins even before saying hi to your swap partner it's kinda rude in my opinion.

Whenever the swap message just says "Your message..." I just decline and leave it as "Your message..." I've been here only a few months and have had 10 maybe 15 swaps that are just worthless.

If the swapper greets with a message including: "Thank you." and "Hello./Greetings./any other salutation" then I would not mind, at least he is kind and friendly.

But if not, I will be annoyed. Personally being a small swapper, I always say hello and thanks (albeit not speaking it directly, like "best regards to you")

You really should try what Myeackle said and setup your wish list, you can't blame someone for opening a swap and not having anything you want when your current setup tells them they have 1000+ coins you're interested in...

Also I wouldn't really call anyone else's list junk, just because you don't want those coins doesn't mean others wouldn't swap for them, for instance a Kew garden 50p is worthless to me but there are collectors that would gladly trade large silver coins for it.

If you get a offer you're not interested in just politely turn it down, that's what the rest of us do and it takes a lot less time than writing a forum post. :)
I collect and deal in ancient Roman coin. In case you're looking for affordable ancient coins or need any help with the coins you already have send me a message.

You profile says I have 312 coins that you want, so you must have done something. Maybe created a wish for a whole country or something.
The Numista program automatically compares his collection with your exchange list and calculates the number of types he hasn't in his collection and you have in your exchange list. You don't have to do anything at all to get these numbers. So these 312 coins are in fact 312 types, so far a collector by date it can be much more than 312 coins.

Can't remember what the default setting is so perhaps that's correct, but in this case he should set his swap wishes to either of the options that don't include coins he's missing, that should cut down on this kind of swap offers.

While this would explain a few swaps, Most of the of "annoying swappers" didn't have any of those "312" coins.

Ashscollectables, you must ignore some comments here, some lousy people will try to swap a few 2011 pennies for large 1800 silver coins and there’s nothing you can do about it.

It’s annoying.

its also annoying when people complain about you complaining about it.

Yup, but that's what will happen/ has always happened on any forum, regardless of the content of said forum.

Here is one of my examples. The swap was started by selecting 30+ coins, about $80 total value (based on NGC values) and 3 words in a language that I had to use Google Translate to understand (translated to "Hi, do you want to swap?") even though that member has English (and others) selected in his profile. So far the negotiation is in the form of me writing in English, quite detailed messages, including scans of all the coins, and still getting back replies in another language with the largest message being about a dozen words. I'm still being patient with it but it is getting close to the limits... 8)
I think everyone has the chance to ask for a swap and ask what they'd like, as long as it is at least realistic. Sometimes some of us are ok receiving one or two coins and willing to send 10 or more, that works sometimes, and then sometimes it doesn't.
Now, not sending a message? I think that's wrong. And that'll make those swaps be denied almost automatically.
