My sincere apologies to the rest of the numismatic world for wasting your time with such toys.

Australia, Niue, Nauru, Isle of Man, Liberia, Virgin Islands, Gibraltar, please don't take inspiration from this, please. I beg you.

At that price, it should come in a capsule. X-D

They just want to be different, so let's not judge them hard. Remember, that one man was burned for theory, that actually Earth is rotating around the Sun and not vice versus...
But coin is ugly..... :)
Every single coin on the world should meet its collector!
Nice mark up. That's about $221 CAD by today's spot silver price. z|

As long as people keep buying these, they are doing what they are supposed to be doing - making money.

wonder how the slabs are gonna be shaped like!
Where is King Henry I of England when you need him? He knew how to deal with awful moneyers :O.
My wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday this weekend, and she asked if I liked the coins from the RCM that she can see when she goes to the post office. I couldn't say "no" fast enough... I told her straight out "Do not buy anything from the post office - though nice and shiny, it is overpriced, and not any kind of 'coin' that I want" ;)

Agreed. It is surprisingly as simple as that.

... but serious coin collectors (and numismatists) should contribute to educate the occasional collector. It is disheartening to see that coin clubs' newsletters throughout Canada present the RCM's new monthly or weekly trash deluxe almost as a news event.

Now, who is the occasional collector? It seems pretty obvious to me that the RCM and other such mints are not aiming at the average Numista collector. No. What they are actually aiming at is the kind of people who would not buy their stuff otherwise, and hence expand their market. When the RCM produces a Star Trek pseudo-coin, it doesn't think of you and me primarily as potential buyers but at Star Trek fans who, I'm told, even have their annual conferences where they come all dressed up in Klingon suits. When they produce Bugs Bunny coins, they aim primarily at the "Baby Boomer" who used to watch the Saturday morning cartoons. When they produce Santa Claus coins, they think of the people who visit Christmas stores even in the middle of the summer :x.

Hey, if someone gave me one of those... I'd take it in a heartbeat. If I had the chance to buy it, NO WAY!
Several countries have issued Star Trek coins. But this the first Enterprise-shaped coin I have seen. No doubt this is just the first. If you are a student of the coining process this is really a fantastic issue.
