Western Africa 100 Francs [solved]

6 posts
I have the following coin from Western Africa - 100 Francs:

It is dated 2002, which according to our catalogue should be KM #4, however, mine is magnetic, which would mean this one, but this is only from 2012 onwards.

Can anyone help, shed any light on which one is correct?

Thanks (in advance),

Nickel is magnetic
In other words, nickel is attracted to a magnet.....

Ok, so is it simply the page for KM#4 which needs changing to read magnetic instead of non-magnetic? Can anyone else check their 100 franc coins from Western Africa from 1967-2009 to see if they are all magnetic?

Thanks.

p.s. actually I also have 2 others of these coins from 1969 and 1976 according to my coin list, so I will also pull these tonight and check if they are magnetic or not. If so I will request the change to be made. Thanks.

Yes, definitely. I've just checked 10 different dates between 1967 and 1980 and they are all magnetic, so it's not a surprise your 2002 is magnetic too.

Besides, other than in our catalogue, Krause 2017 says 2012 is also nickel in stead of nickel plated steel. I know the last years there are many mistakes in Krause so I don't know which one is correct:

I was going to ask the same thing. Mine is 1980 and is magnetic.
