Hello all,
I just got these 2 and I could use a littl help.
I have several ancent china coins put these are odd. they are very thin (.9 mm) and both carry the same markings.
the larger on is 2.9 grams and 24mm round. the smaller is 1.2 grams and 16.5mm.
These coins were used as a transition from the old cast cash coins to more modern machine-style coins. The machines were British technology and, because there were British offices in Kwang-tung (Canton), they issued the most common machine-struck coins.
The smaller coin is a later issue and the size of the 1 cash was reduced. The older 1 cash was relative in size to the old cast cash.
