Dear users,
imagine you are carrying a bag of coins for swapping, and you are flying on a plane and make stops in several airports. The coins are not as valuable as to attract the customs' attention, so if you put them in your carry-on items, the customs will surely let you go. However, the coins may be weighty.
Did you ever put them in your luggage without ending up noticing that your luggage was unpacked and searched just because of those small metal pieces?
P.S. I am flying from Canada to Ukraine with stops in 2 German airports.
They may just be small metal discs to you, but you have to imagine what they look like to the person looking at the scanner. If they see anything suspicious, they will pull your bag to have it inspected. Once opened, they will see it is nothing harmful, and off you go.
Some places will let you through, whereas others will not.
Prepare for the worst, and it can only get better.
I was stopped in Poland with 10 silver coins in my carry on luggage, and was asked to open it, but as soon as they realised they were collectors coins, they let me through.
If you have nothing to hide, then there will never be a problem.
I've carried around 12lbs of coins from Germany to Canada and I was asked to show the contents of my bag at Gatwick airport since I was flying via London. I made a mistake of letting all the coins bunch up in one corner of my suitcase, so it naturally triggered a search - since all they can see is a large clump of metal which is suspicious in general.
A similar situation happened when I carried over 800 circulation type commemorative coins from India to Canada and again was stopped at New York airport.
They normally waive you through without too much issue, but you have to go through the process nonetheless.

I am always carrying lots of coins in my cabin baggage. My latest trip was from Seoul to Taipei over the weekend, and no one made any fuzz about it. Can't imagine why anyone would care. I have them in a small bags in my toiletry bag though, so maybe that's why?
Quote: "Subha Barua"Hello,
Can anyone explain about what Canada customs will do? I am shifting to Canada and I have some silvers...
best regards
Subha
some silvers... 100 pieces or less should not be a problem... are you carrying over 1000 pieces which could be more than 10.000 dollars in melt value maybe a concern otherwise nothing to worry... but just go to their customs website and cross check will be my advice.
No, no, I understood. And the quantity maybe from 5 -6 silvers. Yes, I have to make a rough idea for my country's customs. No matter what I have numerous coins, silvers are only the least.
So, I think everything's gonna be fine.
I only told that because I purchased some silvers from local shops and another from British India had one from my grandfather.
Other than that, I am lucky to have a great chance and advantage that I never had any Israel coins.
