How happy do you feel when you complete a set of coins?

Today, after trying to collect the East Caribbean collection of 'Great British Military Leaders' for over many years, I finally obtained the last 5 coins of the 24 coin set.
eBay has been selling some of them for quite some time, but it is always the same ones, so after all this time, I finally completed my set.
I have added quite a few to the Numista website, and will add the last 5 tomorrow.
Westminster Mint, who created this set, has described this set as Piedforts and weigh 56.56gms, but this information is wrong. They actually weigh 40gms, and as they are not double thickness, they cannot be classed as Piedforts.
Having contacted Westminster Mint to explain their error, they did not reply.
Not to worry as I am extremely pleased with my efforts to obtain and thus complete my set.

I have put them in date order according to the first date of the person on the coin, not the date of issue

Very; it's almost like a part of the universe has been put to right B)

I've personally completed the Austrian 2 schillings of 1928-1937; the pre 1952 Czechoslovak commemorative coins, and am working on doing the same for Poland, Hungary and Yugoslavian interwar commemorative coins.
When I complete my set of old coins,I am glad and at that enhancing and joyful moment, I congratulate myself and feel much more thrilling with thumbs-up to me. I was recently be having to complete my Bulgarian collection, but the Serbian ones are much fancy and expensive that it is almost breath-taking...
As can be seen in the photographs, all of the squares are now filled, and looking at the collection before today, there were empty spaces which seemed very sad, but today, the happiness is back to full.
I am very glad that other collectors feel the same way as me about sets.
May it continue for ever.

for me it's bittersweet. On one hand you get a sense of accomplishment from having completed a set, but on the other hand there's a bit of sadness that there's nothing left to hunt down, because most of the fun in collecting is trying to track down those elusive coins that you need to fill the gaps in your collection.
Most collectors are always collecting more than one set at a time, so completing one is just a great inner feeling that lasts for some time, even though you are already looking to move forward to the next challenges.
I have looked at my completed set more than a dozen times already today, and the smile is not small, and it will not be tomorrow either.
I also have to add the addition five coins to Numista tomorrow, so the smile will be assured of then and beyond.

The five coins have been added to Numista, and are waiting validation.
All 24 coins of this set will then be available for viewing.

They look beautiful! I agree they look happier as a set than I imagine they looked with empty slots.

As for my set, I'll let you know when I finish it.
MonaSeaclaid,
What set are you collecting at the moment. Surely not the same one as I have just finished?

Oh my no. They're beautiful but not what I'm after at the moment. I want to have one complete set of Newfoundland coins, excluding the 1946 5 cent piece and the $2 coins.
How many of this set do you need, and why do you not want the two you wrote about?

Well for the 1946 5 cent piece, there is no record of a 5 cent piece being minted in that year, so it technically shouldn't exist at all. It's widely thought that they were actually minted in 1947, but perhaps we'll never know for sure. There were only ever 2041 of them made, so it's a pretty expensive piece. Even the known fakes can go for quite a bit. I was thinking that if I ever finish my set I'd get a marked counterfeit to have for a reference. I met a man who actually collects the counterfeits, they're more popular than you'd think.

The $2 coins are solid gold, they were only minted in eight years, all between 1865 and 1888 (inclusive), and the highest mintage was 25 000 (in 1882 and 1888). If I even get to see one of those up close it'd be such a dream come true. Maybe someday.

There are probably others in the set that are out of reach but I can dream.
Just found two different Newfoundland $2 gold coins on eBay
1888-£525.00
1882-£403.00

Both look really great.

Yeah, I know I'm biased but the Newfoundland coinage is very attractive, and the $2 coins are no exception.

On your set, I can't see who is on the top left of the first photo.

And I'm greatly amused that Edward I and Robert the Bruce are neighbours, and then it skips to Edward III. :D Poor Edward II was just not an impressive leader.
Top left is Boudicca. Yes, you obviously had to prove yourself to get into this list, and he did not, for some unknown reason.
If you look in the East Caribbean listings, you will find 19 of them already there, with 5 waiting validation. I think I added most of them and changed information on the remainder. Weight was wrong and the coin is described as a piedfort, which it is not.
Certificates give these wrong details.

Boudicca! Of course, I should have figured that out. They're just gorgeous.

They also seem like the types of coins that, while they look amazing in photographs, can't be done justice by a photo alone. I bet in real life they're even better.
They glimmer like they are solid gold, especially when close to the natural light of my office window, even though they are in their plastic cases.
I had to take the top tray off again three times today, just to look at them.
Even my wife thinks they look amazing, so taking that as a great set.

I've managed to get all the San Marino Lira sets (1972-2001). When I got the last ones, that was a huge relief. :D
ROMA AETERNA
druzhynets,
But I bet you had a huge smile on you face, not just because you completed your collection, but also because you no longer have that gap, which annoys collectors, so congratulations.

MonaSeaclaid,
This is a photograph of just one of the coins. Oliver Cromwell, with the plastic case removed for a better picture

These are with the plastic cover in place.

Just beautiful! I had a commemorative piece for the Battle of Beaumont Hamel that sparkled. I picture yours the same way.

druzhynets I imagine you also felt pride, and some happiness! Congratulations on finishing your set! Do we get to see a photo?

I wonder though if there's almost a little sadness. Like when you finish a really good book. You loved the ride and loved how it ended but now there's no more of that book.

At least there's always another book though!
The human nature is very tricky - after having filled the last gap, I've immediately found new gaps which need to be filled now. One day of happiness and then go back to work (;0
ROMA AETERNA
My happiness has so far lasted 6 days, and it is not going away. I smile to myself every time I enter my office, as the coin set is on my desk.
It will stay there for some time, so I will be reminded of the day for quite some time.
I hope we all hold the smile for some time to come and long may it continue.
