This is the longest I've lived in the same place since I was 18 so I figured it was time to make it permanent.
It's quite a nice ceremony and if you ever get the chance to attend one I'd very much recommend doing so. It's written in the language of the 18th century which seems strange to modern ears. So having renounced allegiance to foreign princes and confirmed that I will not be living on the proceeds of prostitution, here I stand.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

Congratulations on your new diplomatic status, Phil! I would have opted for the same thing if I were to establish myself on the other side of the pond.
I am currently travelling in your beautiful country. As a showcase that kind people exist anywhere, a lady in the Walmart helped us footing a $200 bill of groceries that we just did for the family while realising at the cashier that our credit card was still at the hotel. She told us that we could pay her back later that day which we of course did swiftly, accompanied by a bouquet of flowers. Wonderful how people can show so much trust to total strangers.
Maybe the image of a family with 3 cute kids helped our credit rating, and Huntington Beach is a pretty affluent area (the lady could probably easily afford to risk such an amount), but I am still amazed that someone was so helpful and trusting.
does this now mean if you come back to the UK you would be classed as a "Bloody Foreigner" and that you wouldn't be entitled to NHS ? Not that coming back to this country seems to be part of the plan.
I've really admired the fact you seem at home over there. Taking on the local traditions etc !
