I've just got a new favourite coin. I just saw this one from Poland for sale today and I love it.

It's actually a statue in Warsaw, called 'Nike', which is depicted on the coin. But certainly a nice coin. Nice statue, too, see the pic at the bottom of this page:

A lot of socialist art leaves you behind with the bitter taste of insincerity, but sometimes it does hit a string, and then it will genuinely, be it for a moment, make you believe that there's really something serious to commemorate or that a great future indeed lies ahead of us.
Look how this worker leads the poor farmer with his traditional tools towards the rising sun of the industrial era. We all know how it ended, but at the time, it must have been a sincere belief. One of my favorite designs.
To me this is my favourite design... The imperial Bulgarian coin.
Lev = Lion
That Warsaw statue reminds me of the Italian coin that is another of my favourite designs

Here are some more. They are still not mine, they are the seller's pictures, perhaps when they arrive to me, I can update trhe photos.

Monaco [my favourite] - 5 Centimes - Honore V 1837 MC rare
Ottoman empire - 40 Para Mehmed VI 1912
Greece - 1 Obolos or 5 Lepta - George I
Belgium - 2 Francs - Leopold II .835 silver

France - 2nd restoration of Bourbon dynasty - 5 Francs - Louis Philippe I 1835 .9000 silver.
France - 2nd restoration of Bourbon dynasty - 5 Francs - Louis Philippe I 1840 .9000 silver.

From another member...

Netherlands - 1 Gulden Willem III 1860

All these are my favourites because most of them have Lions.
I think from my collection. My favourite designs are
sierra leone company:

I love a good CoA on a coin:

and also monograms:

The east India company, and British india are still some of my favourite pieces be it for simplistic designs:

And stylish rupees:

Finally: another quite simplistic coin but I really like it. Mauritius 50 Sous (British issue):

Oh, but there are so many...

Coins from circulation:
  • Pretty much anything with sitting Liberty or similar looking - old UK pennies, Peruvian dineros and sols, Guatemalan Reals from the late 1800s, Spanish 1869-70 Provisional Government coins, etc
  • Australian 1927 Parliament House florin
  • Early machine-struck Chinese and Japanese curled dragon designs
  • UK St. George and Dragon sovereign
  • New Zealand Maori warrior shillings
  • Italy - Victor Emmanuel III - 1 and 2 Lira (chariot with 4 horses)

Modern NCLTs:
  • Austrian 2013 Prehistoric Life, Trias
  • Fiji 2013 Clouded Leopard

etc
HoH
This is one of my favorites reverse designs.
Unfortunately the portrait of Vittorio Emanuele III on the obverse is less enchanting.
Jamais l'or n'a perdu la plus petite occasion de se montrer stupide. -Balzac
I nearly forgot the Bahamas penny. Certainly one of my favourite coppers !

Nicholas Briot's Scottish Unit

Its Briot's best work in my opinion. Its leagues above the coins of his predecessors.
I don't know about "favorite" (can't decide and there are so many) but a few i am really into right now...

I've always loved the designs on the backs of the 5-25 centime pieces; I made it into a decoration for my MacBook Air recently;

That's pretty cool...apart from the fact that you have a mac :P

Yes, there are a lot of remarks and issues against him and his personalities.

you drew on your MacBook ? I’ve been thinking about a sticker type of thing. For ours then again I only use it for photo editing.

Absolutely; forgive the cliché, but I feel stickers would be perhaps too pedestrian? :°

And you could post that Gold Coast specimen all day long!!!! I wouldn't mind a bit.

I see what you mean. But to be fair a MacBook is rather pedestrian to start with why spoil the habits of a lifetime !?

Peter. Thanks yeah probably my 2 favourite Coins. Then again it’s getting hard to choose my favourites now that I’m upgrading more coins. You can certainly appreciate more coins when you have higher grade pieces like the Mombasa coins I’m currently enjoying !

I'm a huge fan of the Ethiopian lion design - I know it's never going to be worth anything, but I always stash these coins aside whenever I find them in a bulk lot or a junk bin. :)

And even when he is old and tired, the dark fields highlight the Lion of Judah quite nicely.

and Platypus, your own design coin is one of my prefered coins.

My prefered design is from the "magic capital of Europe", the "city with hundred bell towers" and material colors enhance its charm.

We can note that prefered coins on this thread have most of the time in common the caracteristic of an high perspective effect.

Ahh, yes, that Australian 20-cent coin was actually the very first coin I ever sought out and bought on ebay, years and years ago. Such a majestic creature. ;)
