But, of course, the price of these metals is constantly fluctuating, but the variations in a single coin are not that significant ...

Very interesting article/data, meaning most of my coins are worth of few cents only if using the value of metal.
Very cool! That's something I've often wondered about when picking through my change. Makes you wonder how some mints complain that they're losing money.
Yes guys, that's why you should pay more attention to silver and gold z)

Yes, interesting, but I would just like to point out to those unfamiliar with Roman coinage that the aureus (#11) is equivalent to 25 silver denarii.¹ This is the plural of denarius.

Reminded me of a post I wrote a few months ago. All modern coinage is a scam by definition, but as long as people believe in it works out nicely.

An important lesson is that most demonetised coins lose their value to melt quite quickly. A lot of high denonination pre-Euro coins are close to worthless, except key years and uncirculated condition.
Ahhh!!! We pay taxes to the Governments, we need not to care about that.... 8~
Yes, contemporary circulation money is pure fiction... From the moment humankind resigned from silver and golden circulation coins, the value flew away... Now the only thing left is the number printed on a worthless piece of paper or engraved on the worthless piece of base metal.

I too have thought that.
Imagine.....these days we have so much money, but in those days (very few gold ducats and kreuzers).
And the 1800's coins stories deals much with that. And only the King was important across Europe and his royal King or Queen relative or other countries, but local people were nothing to him in those days.

At time, the Belgian Franc was at par of silver. 2 and 5 Frrance, .835 silvers were ordered by me in a trade with a trading partner. And this led me to the thinking, at that ime 5 Francs had so much value like a half ducat and was minted out of silver, but now, they are minted out of only brass, copper, etc. :o
....according to this site, which updates itself with the most recent Cu and other base metal prices, on 5 August 2017, the American pre-1983 penny melt-value is 2 cents, worth double its face value.

Few material things in this world are intrinsically worth double their face value!
