Quote: "Mark240590"Really it should be the lions Vs The ANZAT (Australia New Zealand And Territories) that would be some team !Yes that would be an excellent match, something i hope will happen in the future.
Quote: "neilithic"This might sound arrogant, but a combined ANZAC team would probably still be the same team. I don't think there's any Australian or Pacific Island player I would pick over an All Black. Except perhaps Michael Pocock for Sam Cane. The only one I would like dropped from our team is Sonny Bill, but then I'd rather have Malakai Fekitoa in the team over someone else from Australasia/PacificYou see that's the thing, and it wouldn't help the team anyway as the AB's are a team that have gelled together over the years whereas the Lions only play rugby for just over a month together.
Quote: "pnightingale"I've always admired New Zealand's sporting prowess. I think it's quite remarkable that a country with a population the size of Scotland can be legitimate competitors at the highest levels across so many sports. They are not there just to make up the numbers, they're there to win.thankyou I am blushing with pride hhhhhmmmm
I also like the way they typically play the game - hard but fair. Kinda like the pre-Chappel Australian cricket team. Nobody likes to see their national teams lose but it takes a bit of the sting away to know that you lost to a better team on the day instead of crooked umpires.
A country that can produce Sir Richard Hadlee, Jonah Lomu and the Lord of the Rings trilogy has to be doing something right. I think I could quite happily live out the rest of my days in your little island paradise.

Quote: "Mark240590"New Zealand is firmly in my top 3 of my emigration consideration list. Alongside Canada and Australia.why is it that the lions have no anthem to sing prematch--surely God save the queen or even full version of "swing low sweet chariot"

Quote: "Oklahoman"Oklahoma City Thunder love our Kiwi player, Steven Adams! yes - he comes from our home city ROTORUA and is well known identity-- goes to local gym when he is home and supports alot of local charities-- and a real nice guy-----also from this city Danny Lee the golfer plays at springfield golf course across the road from my house-- i think little ole NZ punches above its weight when it comes to sport and of course Lydia Ko ( female golfer former rank no1) is a kiwi as well--------------------just about any major sport kiwis seem to excel in
Quote: "muzz0000"just football. Maybe boxing too can't think of any Kiwis on the world stage there. Pretty good for such a small country. But then again, it's a god given talent so there's no reason any country couldnt excel at something. Just depends on the weather society encourages the sports. In england academics are pushed a lot more. I find the US way of doing it the best. Get a sports scholarship and if you're not good enough to become a professional then you have qualifications to do other things.

Quote: "Mark240590"=1emjust football. Maybe boxing too can't think of any Kiwis on the world stage there. You mean you haven't heard of Joseph Parker who holds one of the three world heavyweight boxing titles?
Quote: "neilithic"i remember when Chris Wood was the next big thing. Shame it never panned out. I know your countrymen are about. I don't know the Parker no. I'm sure he and Joshua will face off soon enough so Joshua can unify that one too.

Soccer is definitely a weak sport for NZ though, but there are a couple of kiwis in the English Premier League. Winston Reid plays for West Ham and Chris Wood played for Leicester until a year or so ago.
Quote: "Mark240590"ooopppps theres a challenge haha

Quote: "neilithic"What, no Portuguese?I forgot to mention them ! Then again theirs and Spain's decline in world football has been quite spectacular. Portugal seemed to fluke their way to winning the Euros !
