Quote: "loruca"The best is that the coin is stamped "COPY"
Copied for the serious collelctor.
I did wonder if that was what I was seeing. I don't have the experience or proper viewing technology to tell.
On a side note why do I keep seeing ads where people took their photos outside and with the coin in their bare hands? Is it some sort of secret of sales I haven't heard about?
I know... They are exceptional, too, because they prove that the Romans used the letter "W" in spite of what scholars have said for centuries. Just a bunch of liars!

Quote: "pnightingale"I wonder if it's stupidity rather than dishonesty?
I've got the same coin, it's glued to the wonky leg on Abby's writing desk to stop it from wobbling.
I'll send the seller a message, to see wether he knows or not. I'll get back here with the answer (if he sends one) later!

Quote: "radrick007"I already sent a message asking if it was ancient Greek text that said "COPY"
If he is bright he'll say that it's actually a mysterious ancient Greek word in Greek letters which reads as "SORY" in our alphabet.
The story about his car needing to be fixed + telling us to do all the research we'd like strongly suggest that it is dishonesty rather than stupidity. He wants to instill in possible buyers a sense of confidence. It's like MacDonald's providing nutritional facts on demand.
In addition, he is covering his a** because even if you didn't look carefully at the pictures (which I didn't do at first because I didn't see the word COPY), he can always say "Hey, I told you to do all the research you like! Not my problem any longer!"
The word "COPY" comes from the Proto-Indo-European "kom" and "op", meaning "near/with" and "produce in abundance" respectively, so that coin is actually older than he thinks it is! Also if it was "nearly" "produced in abundance" then that means it's scarce!
We're getting an even better deal than he says we are!

Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.
