Official measures????

3 posts
Hi,

I made a change request on a coin and it was rejected because the "official" measure do not correspond to the reality:

the coin:

The referee said that the "official" is 30 mm and therefore my request was rejected!!!

My question is now, if we should be ruled by "official" and wrong measurements or if we should opt for the real measurements?

Take care, ole

I think whoever was the referee was wrong to delete your request, just because you stated something different from the standard recognised dimensions.
If you have time, take a look at the East Caribbean States 2 dollar coins, some of which I have added. It is the gold plated copper-nickel series 'Great British Military Leaders'.
Numista, NGC and Krause all had the weight wrongly listed as 56.56gms and listed it as a Piedfort. This is the information on the certificate. Westminster Mint will not investigate as I did not buy coins directly from them.
All of the coins I have in my collection, of this series, weigh 40gms and are not Piedforts.
I requested a change of weight on Numista and this was accepted, but Krause have not returned my email.
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.

I had the same reply before. A referee prefered to use the official weight rather than the actual weight.
I measure and weight every coin in my collection with digital equipment.

To his defense I might add that the Pakistan 50 Rs 2016 varies in weight from 5.0 to 6.1 gramms, so what is actual ? :-)
But in general, when it is official, it does not mean it is right ... That experience comes by the years I guess.
