Identification of mark

6 posts
Hi there,

can anybody help me identifying this mark?

This mark can be found on the 1 peso coin from 1974-1981 just left of the right shoulder of Bólivar. It looks like an 'E' or a 'w'. Maybe it is part of the design, but I think it just might be a designer mark.

Thanks in advance!

Possibly a mint mark. This coin was minted in both Germany and in Colombia. Try and find an example of a coin minted in each location and see if they match up. From my research I found 2 different examples of coins with the mark/symbol being different on each.

Example 1: (zoom into mark)

Example 2: (zoom into mark) NUMISTA

It's very possible my eyes are fooling me but each example seems to be different.

You might be right. When you put them beside each other one looks like a C with a dot in it, the other looks more like the pound symbol: £

I have a lot of these coins, I'll check it out tomorrow.
Thanks for the efforts. It is greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

I have done some searching but I also cannot identify this mark, I cannot find the designer to see if it is their initials/mark.

Rotating the mark shows what looks like a C.N. to me but that is a pure guess as one of the stops is not aligned.

Something I have noticed is that the mark does not appear on the 2 peso coin
