Nice price tag!
Heh, yeah. I've spotted that before. Coulda sworn the price tag was £4500 a year ago. Plus they had about 4 identical lots. Hmm, a person could retire from society for a few years sorting through that. I must confess, I'd probably buy it if I could.
VERY over priced.

I buy wholesale bulk lots, the largest I buy is 10kg which costs me £50 (£5 per kg). If I was a dealer looking to buy stock I should want to buy for half the retail price of £10 per kg, and if I was buying such a massive quantity as 1000 kg I should expect to pay no more than £2 per kg, or £2000 for one of these lots.

Looking at the photographs they are the standard foreign coin batches one gets wholesale (eg they have come out of slot machines, charity bottles etc and have been pre-sorted to extract precious metals etc).

I should advise against buying this lot.

Matt
Yep, I've seen this one before too.
Problem is : it doesn't fit into a bubble envelop ! :P
And like Matt says, it's really overpriced.

If I had the money...which I don't... I'd not buy them...like Scotty said...it'd be nice to sort through though. Could you imagine the upset when you didn't find a single rare coin! So Matt, how comes you aren't a dealer then...those are good bulk prices you are getting. I wish I knew where to get prices like that. Here in Kent we just get pricey auctions. Most irritating! Anyway put this on here just to see the reaction. Funny about the length of time that has been on there.

It may suprise you to hear that I am not materialistic, I am to business what Thatcher was to compassion. I find it very hard to make a profit out of someone, feeling it much more appropriate to help those in need - eg: give things away. That's why I asked you if you knew any kids who'd like some coins (I don't like the idea of supplying a dealer with freebies). I am currently having a problem after someone here asked to buy some coins from me, I don't want to charge him for them, but I am too embarrassed to say!

Should I divulge my sources of bulk coins? Hmmmm.....You could try....

Not the cheapest, but a very competitive and sensible £10 a kg (standard wholesale price) and a good company to deal with.

Slightly more expensive, but still worth dealing with is Collectors World in Nottingham

But please don't tell anyone, or there will be none left for me.

DOH!

I'm lucky enough to have a coin shop within 5 miles from where I live. No bulk coins though, but many 1000s of interesting older coins from 50p to £100s. You get a little fed up of bulk coin buys eventually I think..but when I saw the crate of coins on Ebay last year for I am sure £4500..my mouth started to water. I agree, £7,500, £7.50 a kilo is too much if your purpose is splitting and reselling on. You know there'll be no rare coins in it..but it may help with a coin addiction if you happen to be flushed with cash. Flip, some people spend £5K+ on a years poncing around golf courses.
I think my wife would kill me if I would buy that. She's already telling me I never have any time for her.
Of course I don't : I have to sort my coins :

This is only a part of my doubles and unsearched coins...  0:)

Will have to respond to the picture later...can't see it on my phone...but I'm pleased we can have a laugh on here. Also, thanks for those links Matt (how does bulk coins work?/ are they sifted through?) Say I wanted a 1949 three pence would I get it or would that have already have been removed?
And Scotty too right on the golfing front!
Tony that is as big as my collection! Is the green rubbish bin where you keep your bullion? Ha ha.
Bulk coins can be a good way to kickstart a world coin collection but you can be sure they have already been picked clean of any precious metals by the silver hounds. There are plenty of lots for sale on eBay daily, some have a few small silver coins and low grade 19th century coins seeded into the mix so the seller can claim it contains silver and early coins. Look at the other items being offered by the same seller and you will invariably see several pages of single coins being sold, which of course have been carefully removed from the "unsearched" bulk lots. The smarter sellers use affiliate accounts to make it less obvious.

Of course you may find a genuinely unsearched accumulation but that will most likely be a one-off sale. That's where the bargains can be found if you have a keen eye and a lot of patience.

Even in bulk coin lots it is possible to find coins with substantially more than face value. The bottom feeders pulling out the "melt" items have neither the knowledge or inclination to decipher Islamic or Asian coins and if that's your thing then you may indeed find that elusive variety or key date.

In spite of the above I would love to get my hands on one of those bulk lots and take a week or two off work to sort through it.  Where I would put it though is another matter. We bought a house with a complete home office built on the back by the previous owner with it's own kitchen and bathroom. It's full of collectables, the bookcases hold coin and stamp albums, the shelves are full of cigar boxes with more coins, there are currently 3 folding tables filled with loose coins and I've run out of space on my desk so the coins are now iving in the gaps on my keyboard.

Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Of course its down to the individual, but for me yes and no. While I still find coins I don't already have, I am happy to buy the bulk lots. Once I no longer get "new" coins, then its time to stop and to be sensible, responsible and mature, and spend my money on my worthwhile causes....like beer, cigarettes and loose women...

*ouch*

Only joking, dear. I meant the mortgage and groceries. z|

Matt
Wow that's a huge lot. X-D I always wanted to buy bulk lot but dropped the idea as you don't get such lots in India easily and outside India the price of shipping is more than the cost of the coin lot. :p

The price for each coin is about USD $.053 each.

That's often a fair rate for far less amounts.

Wow, what a blast from the past. During the intervening months I managed to clean up my desktop for about a day. The picture below is the same desk in it's current state along with several hundred Mexican coins on a seperate table.

The note under the monitor reads, "I've had enough of this crap, I'll be at my sister's". I have no idea who it's from, I was going to ask my wife but I haven't seen her for a while.

I hope she comes back!

After following some advice on a forum: https://en.numista.com/forum/topic8082.html

I typed in foriegn coins in my search for job lots and found this!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280870660843?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

I'd say a little pricey, but works out to about £6 per kilo. I would go for it...but I'd be willing to stretch to £180. Any other takers?

I do think we collectors should buy bulk lots together!
