Hello Again, My friends
Today I went to post office and collected the Custom declaration form and envelope to put the coins in and send them.
So I wanted to know that if I write on the CUSTOM DECLARATION FORM THAT I AM SENDING COINS IN THE ITEM DESCRIPTION will they throw the package?
And if so they do, what should I write in the item description?
Instead of writing coins, I write hobby supplies, which means that the package can have anything hobby related from trading cards to coins. Coin collecting is considered a hobby, but instead of writing coins, hobby supplies is a term that doesn't rise suspicion during customs.
Sayan, the reason why you shouldn't write "coins" is twofold - A] many countries prohibit the mailing of currency and don't distinguish between laundered drug money and collector's coins, and B] it's an invitation for mail handlers to steal the parcel.
So, we use a term that is technical accurate but nondescript. Hobby supplies as suggested, or tokens, medallions... something which implies that the contents are of value only to a specialized collector.
It's also important to make sure the coins are packed in such a manner that they don't burst the envelope or jingle together and attract attention. Most countries use automated mail sorters which means that during it's journey to it's final destination your letter is going to be passed between multiple high speed rollers. A bunch of coins simply dumped into an envelope will eventually get squeezed into one corner and burst all over the sorting room floor.
If you are using padded mailers then there shouldn't be a problem but for regular envelopes you need to give it a bit more thought. Some people cut out circles for the coins in a cardboard sheet. I wrap mine in tissue paper and then in heavy white paper which has worked for me without problems.
Non illegitimis carborundum est. Excellent advice for all coins.

My suggestion would be to avoid writing "hobby supplies" because it will only attract attention as most postal workers are going to wonder what that is (a package to me from the UK got stuck at customs House in Bombay because it was declared as "Numismatic supplies". If you pack your letter well and it feels like there is a book or photos in there, then you can simply write "book" or "photo album". In a nutshell, think of something that doesn't seem valuable enough to steal and that any person would automatically know what it is

It has weight.... So can I write photo album? See the package by yourself
Quote: "Sayan" I will follow your suggestion surely.
And as Subha Barua told.... Is it true that my coins will be thrown into seas?
Thanks in advance
Sayan
I think it's safe to ignore any "expert advice" from this particular source.

lol, photo album is not going to work in this case. I am very skeptical this package will reach its final destination. I'm afraid the packing does not look very good. It looks as if there is some cloth material stuffed in there. But it'll be heavy and hard. So it's definitely going to be opened and checked. If you go ahead and send it this way, I wish you best of luck!
