What coins have you seen which have the least design/simplest design. I got a bulk lot of coins in last night and found this coin from Zambia

That has to be one of the plainest coins I've seen before.

Wow, the design is pretty plain, but it's pretty fancy having it all twisted like that.

Definitely!

The basic design of the Zambia coin with the hole in the middle reminds me of the old milk tokens that we used to use when I was a child here in NZ.

There are a number of coins like that were obviously minted on the cheap and in a hurry (Gabon comes to mind, as does the Belgium 2 franc issued in 1943 by the Allied occupation).

As to plain coins that nonetheless have some sort of design, I find Costa Rica and Yugoslavia to be terribly boring (no offense meant to anyone who lives in those areas).
This concern for bareness which reinforces the subject is found on Slovenian coins like this great Long-eared owl, so small in the immensity of the night, or this stylized evocation, minimalist, like a counterpoint to the exuberant gigantism of the Cave of Postojna.

You insult me! :(
I didn't say it was ugly. I said it was plain, and it is.

plain: not decorated or elaborate; simple or basic in character.

The other one I can remember thinking it was pretty plain was the Syrian WWII emergency money

Agree.
Here's my vote for the plainest and ugliest U.S. coin.

I think it has to be one of France simplest coins

We name "Philly" these 2Francs, France and Belgium WWII emergency money. In these troubled times, there was something else to do but spend time in the design of coins :D

And knowing it's the only "Made in USA" French coin, not surprising for the coin's nickname.

Yes, this one: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3103.html

I guess I was thinking 1943 because it was made on the steel planchets from the 1943 US cent. (But I guess it was leftover stock the year afterwards.)
