Heres a challenge---how many traders (non european) have collections of 2 Euro coins--I received new lot from trader today that takes me upto 199 different KM's , and I still have alot missing esp the smaller countries Monaco, Malta, Vatican city etc. All have been traded from European friends, so have not had to buy any as yet- I have noted that these harder issues sell for more than 5 x face value--- do these traders pay more than face value for these issues, do they have to pay a premium for them. Surely you must be able to get from the banks in rolls of UNC at face value
We in NZ have only ever had 1 Circulating commerative coin in the last 50 years( 2015 ANZAC), and we were able to buy from bank at face value,as long as stock remained, and as they were only 50 cent nz coins (about 40c US) they were snapped up by collectors, and now sell for upto 10x face value
No one gets coins from San Marino, Vatican and Monaco for the face value. Andorra is an exception because those get released in circulation, mixed in roles of Spanish coins.
Quote: "PajaSkot"I live in the US and I collect 2 Euro coins as well. I have all cheap ones but the most recent coins from 2016. I also have about 10 expensive ones.
What country are the expensive ones, and how much do they fetch?
I miss only 4 coins from all the 2 euro commemoratives and these ones are the most expensive;
- Monaco 2007 "Grace Kelly" ~1800 eur
- Monaco 2015 ~800 eur
- Vatican 2005 ~350 eur
- Vatican 2006 ~200 eur
Every single coin on the world should meet its collector!
A while ago I got offered a big lot of Euro coins (about 100 Euro worth) for less than face value. I don't collect euro coins so I turned it down, but I'm kicking myself now because there are so many collectors of them that I could have easily split and re-sold or used them to trade.
I'm from the US but one of my 2 main collections is the 2 euros. I have no Vatican and only a regular SanMarino and Andorra. I do have some of the Monaco ones. In total I've got 231 different types all UNC.
Hello friends, I'm from Brasil and for coincidence I bought today more 20 coins to my small collection, I have only 55-60 different types of 2 Euro coins... Do you guys know How many coins are there in Total (or counting only commemoratives or with the circulatings too...)? Thanks and my best wishes to all!

It depends on what you collect. Regarding conmemoratives, the base number at then end of 2016 is 331 and growing, counting the 5 different mints of Germany. If, for instance, you add Malta's variants with mint marks or without, the number grows.
Regarding circulating coins, the number is around 3000 coins.
I collect only by types, not Dates or Mintmarks... Good to know this numbers, I like very much 2 Euro coins, and I hope to reach more than 100 in my collection soon

should that be 300 circulating not 3000 ----maybe the ones not intended for circulation should be considered NCLT ------- i do not collect NC so will not be seeking these expensive ones from the Vatican etc
In Finland you can't get any UNC coins at face value. The mint sells rolls and bags directly (www.suomenrahapaja.fi), so you can buy those as much you want without using traders.

how much on top of the 2 euro do they put on--just talking to guy in the US who says the presidential series cost about $1.38 to buy in bulk just does not seem right somehow
It appears that several 2 euro coins ( mostly from Monaco,Vatican city and San Marino) are issued purely for collectors, at inflated prices and not intended for local circulation
However they way that they appear in the NUMISTA catalog , there is no indication that this is the case ,i.e nothing seperates them from normal circulating coinage- (standard 2 euro coins). Who ever inputs the info for the coin continues to place UNKNOWN in the circ/non circ boxs
Surely if they know they are not intended for circulation, the appropiate box is NON CIRC, and this would appear at the top of coin page as such , and also be eliminated when you use the circulating category
I collect only circulating coins and it would be nice to be able to eliminate these what must be considered NCLT, We have just finished(Neil and I) the process of correcting this with the large NZ dollars, so is simple to correct
TAKE for example KM374-VATICAN CITY when it should be entered circulating YES NO UNKNOWN it is entered as UNKNOWN instead of NO and this one simple action places coin in wrong category
Its a little tricky. From what I hear, the last couple Belgian 2 euro coins were suppose to circulate, then suddenly you could only get them in a BU card for ~13euros, and if I'm not mistaken, they are back in circulation. I guess when the issue is unveiled and a pic is available, people enter the info but leave out the mintage if details are unknown. Of course, that means someone needs to go and edit those entries as and when we do get clarity.
It'd be great if people were so diligent, but this is all out of bonne volonte; and I'm no where as diligent as the requirement, so I can't be demanding anything in my own specific personal capacity ;)

Wow thankyou for explanation--difficult to correct these entries from the other side of the world- but surely there must be experts amongst the traders that could correct it would be interesting for the NCLT coins to have issue history and maybe price---it would certainly make it easier for us guys on the other side of world- maybe a link would even accomplish this
It is difficult to understand that you should have to pay a premium( above face value) for coins destined to circulate from the banks/mints
Fellow Kiwi
And as I mainly collect stamps, I like to collect coins from the countries I have big collections of stamps from. I have 3 x 2 Irish 2 Euro coins (2 standard, and 1 treaty of Rome 2007), Also a Malta 2 Euro coin in a coin set (2008), A San Marinese 2 Euro coin loose and in a set I bought there (Those are rare and sell at a premium). Also have 2 Euros from Spain and Greece, Plus a 2 Euro coin 2014 King Willem Alexander of Netherlands, which I got off a Dutch guy whom I sent used Prince concert tickets too.
I love coins. Especially silver, gold and anything really old.

Vatican Euro coins are expensive, you would hardly ever see them in change (In Italy and around the Rome area is your best chance) and I saw them on sale at Tourist shops there for like €100 or more a year set of coins. I really wanted a set but was not paying those prices. I bought a € 0.50 there or like €10 or something, Ctaholic church, mark up prices I guess.

The 3000 number includes not only 2 euros, but every euro coin. If we only count regular circulating 2 euro coins, the number is around 315 counting Germany's 5 mints. So the grand total (regular + commemoratives) is approaching 700.

Thats quite impressive! I've been collecting Euro coins since they were introduced. Back then I used to live in India, but for the last few years, been collecting from here in Canada.
I just checked and find that I have 245x 2euro coins (standard circulation and commemorative). I don't collect by year and mintmark and I don't collect San Marino, vatican, monaco and Andorra. However, I am still missing several 2nd version coins with the full european map
Quoteh...just talking to guy in the US who says the presidential series cost about $1.38 to buy in bulk just does not seem right somehow
Sounds right... you can't go to the bank and ask specifically for a roll of unc commemoratives; you got to buy them from the mint directly (online)...and they'll charge you a surcharge + shipping... same thing here in canada...I mistakenly bought a roll of lucky loonies 2016 ...face value 25$, but I ended up paying nearly 60$ after tax and shipping.
I do coin roll hunting; whenever I get rolls from the bank, its a mix of different quarters, new, old, unc and rusty etc. I pick out what I want and roll them back up to be deposited. Its a fun and fairly cost effective way to build up my swap list

Thanks fryant good to know... Im eager to receive a lot of 20 different I bought... I hope to reach at least 150 different 2 euro coins next year

Some of the non-EU collectors would imagine that a EU collector might get its coins at face value.
Well, they can - but you must figure out that you may only get at facial value, at the national bank, a roll with coins from your country only - so not expect 2 Euro CC from other EU countries in there.
It is therefore not the same as in Russia or US or Canada. I do not have most of the coins issued from other EU countries, not because I am lazy to ask the bank, but because the country issuer is different that the one I am supplying for.
As someone who collected euro coins from outside the EU (India & Canada), I traded for half the coins and probably bought the other half because it may have been more economical to do so.
I just checked and I have 259x 2euro coins in total; 223 of which are commemoratives. I miss the commems and standard types of Monaco, Vatican, San Marino and Andorra; territories of which I have consciously decided to ignore.
I think when all told, I have a fairly large collection of Euro coins for someone outside the EU ;-)
I am up to 235 different 2 Euro coins both commemorative and regular versions including regular Andorra, San Marino and both Monaco rulers as well as a couple of the Monaco commems (4 of them). I really enjoy collecting them...they aren't the prettiest but I cant help myself!

And some countries are also making restrictions or additional costs on buying rolls. Example: Luxembourg sells rolls on the central bank website at a higher price than the face value total. Not enough to limit speculation over Luxembourg rolls (as for ex. commemorative €2 coins may be sold over €4-5 per coin), but a way to "tax coin speculation".

Thanks, just moved it to 260 with the latest Latvian Commem. For me, its been a very long road going back to 2002. Can't believe its already 15 years since I've been chasing euros. My total euro collection stands at a little over 800 on last count (includes the standard circulation type and collector coins from Germany, Austria, Portugal, Netherlands, SPain and Slovenia mainly)
