Hello
I'm new to this site and new to coins I was doing a small job for some neighbors and got on the subject of hobbies - I told them I had just started looking into coins. They gave me a small bag containing a number of coins - two coins look Greek. One is small with a horse that looks to be in a square, on the other side a mans head to the left what looks like a helmet on his head. The other coin is a bit bigger with what looks like a eagle standing.

.
Hope you can see the pictures ok and if any one can identify them that will be great.
Thanks, Steve
The first looks like a "facing bull head"

The second one is a Ptolemaic coin from ancient Egypt, possibly this one:

Ptolemy III Philopater, AE25 Dichalkon, 221-204 BC, Alexandria Mint. Head of Alexander right, wearing elephant skin headdress, horn of Ammon and aegis / PTOLEMAIOY BASILEOS, eagle standing left on thunderbolt, E between legs. Svoronos 977.

Well at least I'm getting some info even though I'm still a bit green on coins. Do I take it the coins are valuable or just good to place in a box - I do have a large amount to go through like these.

I believe this is the first one:

KINGS of PARTHIA: Mithradates I, 165-132 BC Æ Chalkoi. Hekatompylos mint. diademed bust left, wearing long beard, within bead-and-reel or wreath border / BAΣIΛEΩΣ MEΓAΛOY APΣAKOY, horse advancing right, left foreleg raised.
Both are from France:

Ok so what does this all mean ? Are the coins very rare or is the coin world awash with this kind of coin I know I may sound like I know nothing about coins and that is true but we all need to start some where.
i do have some other coins I may need help with I have a 1770 King George half penny some one told me that was a rare coin to have but not to sure.
thanks Steve
Your greek coins are rare and expensive, 5 Francs Napoleon and Louis Philippe are more common but still very attractive.

Ok thanks not sure what to do with them now. how do you go about getting them valued ? I have two boxes of all kinds of coins that I need to go through most are just the run of the mill coins .
would I need to keep the Greek coins separate so they don't get any more worn they are just in the box with the rest.
thanks Steve
The price for your greek coins is difficult to evaluate. For the 2 other coins, following prices are a baseline if you want to sell them your coins on eBay one day.
5 Franc Louis Philippe
5 Francs Napoleon
Each of your coin should be kept separately in separate bags in order to avoid any further damage. The way you handle them (plastic, paper) doesn't matter due to the fact that silver doesn't oxydize.

Thanks I do have a number of plastic sleeves I will start to place the coins in each one.
i would think like most things the price you could or will get for anything is the price some one is willing to pay.
i will try to find a sight that has the same coins and see how much they are selling for.
Thanks Steve
You will find in the "Free discussion" forum, many way of managing your collection and handling your coins

Ok I had a look on eBay to see if any coins of the same age was listed for sale I did see some on other sites for 2 and 3 hundred pounds I did also see on eBay for around the same price but also I did see some for under a pound so still not to sure if my coins are so valuable ?
Thanks steve
1) PARTHIA, Mithradates I, 165-132 BC Æ Chalkoi: This would be a valuable coin if it was in significantly better condition, my estimate $20
2) Ptolemy III Philopater, AE25 Dichalkon, 221-204 BC: Again, due to condition, my estimate $25
3)1833 France 5 Francs: About $15 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1833-FRANCE-SILVER-5-FRANC-COIN-MIN-BID-01-amp-NO-RESERVE-/381869152544?hash=item58e92cd920%3Ag%3AJyMAAOSw2xRYP1md&nma=true&si=UQ%252FoqEkAh9SouBod21BCkk4xuKM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
4) 1812-B France 5 Francs in VG condition: About $30
For the greek coins, without the weight it's impossible to give a precise identification, especially with the ptolemaic one. There are at least 3/4 different types struck by differents kings with this exact iconography, only the weight, the diameter and a precise analysys of the style can distinguish them.

The eagle on your coin is turning his head to the right, the one of the coin showed by steve 27 is turning his head to the left.
In fact, your coin is still on the database :
https://fr.numista.com/catalogue/pieces49712.html

Check weight and diameter to be sure.
Thanks very much for the information I will post a reply soon has I can get around to getting the information that may identify the coins or would it be that the coin is a fake with the eagle facing the other way ?
thanks Steve
The design of your coin if 100% identic to the one of the page of the database, but you should check with the diameter and the weight - even if it won't probably be exactly the same.
Managed to get size and weights of the two coins
