So I'm sure many of you have had the same discussion with your significant other. She says your coins are a waste of money and you argue it's an investment or that your able to usually break even on your coins. My wife tells me this all the time and it's kinda our ongoing joke. The other day I sold some coins to a member on here and when she just found out by chance that I had made some money selling coins it was great to see her eat her words . I have quite a bit of coins on my swaplist both some common and others not. If you would like to take a look and see if there is anything you could use let me know. I would love to sell some more just so I can see that look again.

Matt
I show my wife some nice coins (design) which included silver or/and gold metals... and I bought her one also...
She didn't mind my coin collection since the beginning or after I got her that nice coin ;)
I'm very fortunate I suppose. As long as we have a roof, food and clothes, my wife isn't worried about my collecting. I've also purchased her a few numismatic items (after a long search I was even able to find two love tokens with her and my initials) which may have helped.
Ive tried finding something that interests her with no luck. I have been able to get both my girls into collecting coins which she's jokes around as me just using them as a excuse to buy more coins but its all in good fun. I am also in a similar boat as long as the bills are paid and i let her buy stuff for herself she doesn't bother me too much but that look on her face was too much so I just figured I would try to sell some more.
Hey Matt do your little ones collect world coins. In the next few months I will be thinning my extra's for the UK.
Have some 3 and 6 pence and a lot of newer common coins. Should I set up two sets the same?
To be honest I miss it. But I use to get a lot of oh that's nice, is it have any value, sell it. A lot.
My wife and I both have our hobbies. We run our home finances on a budget, so there is a set amount available for each of us per month to pursue our hobbies. It works very well for us.
My wife has her hobbies as well. She spends most her time with the kids gymnastics and then she has a new found love for essential oils. It seems like whenever she wants something if i just nod and say ok she is pretty happy. For the most part she treats me the same way but always loves to add in the little jabs about how I will never sell any of my coins and am turning into a hoarder lol.
This must be a common problem ... I have a small budget to buy some , but my wife is always moaning that I keep talking about coins to her and she's not the slightest bit interested - unless I can turn them into coins for her purse!
I am am trying to get my grandsons interested - cos she saying if anything happens to me she's going to sell the lot so I need to make them an inheritance.
My wife is fine with my coins, because I usually use my spending money and I pretty much always turn a profit. She was a bit dubious when I told her I wanted to spend $400-$500 on a lot, because I didn't have enough money in my account at the time so I had to take it out of our joined account. But she was fine when I had made it all back within 2 weeks and still had 3/4 of the lot left.
Hi, if I had the money I would buy so many of your coins I'm not sure how buying them works on here, but I would be interested in some of your spanish coins (probs quite a lot) and a couple of your French coins (the collections I'm trying to improve on at the moment :)

If you want to open up a swap with the coins that your interested in we can try to work out something. I accept PayPal and am willing to ship overseas.
My wife is very kind with my collecting, and even adds to it with some very interesting coins for birthdays and Christmas.
She says that I only talk about coins and football, (I am a qualified referee), so a few months ago I had the delight of buying a coin that had a footballer on it. I think the conversation lasted less than a few seconds.
My wife also has her hobbies, but these do not last very long as she has to complete the collection very quickly. So, she does not get the elongated pleasure, like me, as I am still fond of my first coin and my latest. When you have over 15,000 different coins by type, the stories are brilliant, but only when I talk to myself. She can talk about her dolls house all day, and I just listen patiently. Good husbands tip.
I buy what I want and my wife just do the same. Money it's not a problem.
Further on I collect for the next generation which is our children and that's a good investiment, isn't it?

Thats what I am always telling her that its a great investment for the kids
Remember that you are a custodian of coins. They hold not only monetary value (or they did), they have numismatic value and social value.
In fairness, you don't have to justify this to your wife or prove her wrong. The man cave is an essential necessity in modern society as well as it was a mindset many years ago. That's why we men do as we do. It is within us this strange collection ability...it is a question of provision...whether imaginary or real.
Sell what you want, buy what you want but don't make it a battle because then you are altering your collection parameters for someone else and not you.
Thank You and I do agree. It isn't a battle and hope that I didn't make it sound that way. We both ultimately do what we want and it was just nice the other day to see her surprise when she saw I had actually sold some coins. She just thinks I'm turning into a hoarder and will never sell anything lol.

This is something I have been thinking of doing but the effort of taking pictures of them all and listing them is a hurdle I do not seem to have the energy to do. I wouldn't swap them unless it is for silver or maybe even something gold for them all. Most of them are very high grades, maybe I should compile a list and see if it interests anybody.

Well, it took me almost a year to do that. It had a lot of positive effects - I invested the money in more scarce types and narrowed the areas of interest. Now my collection looks more systematic and more professional. It weighs much less than 10 kilos and costs much more than it did before. Sometimes it makes sense to rethink, reevaluate the collecting approach. It's a huge leap for my collection.
