I hoarded anything UK Here is about 80 bronze 2 new pence coins
And have around 900 large one penny coins
edit those are the ones not in my collection. penny's of mine Have alway's love them.
Quote: "Mark240590"For me it's my hometown wonder I now have 5 of them in varying grades !
Surely I can't be the only one who's a hoarder with certain types...
Never come across them before. They're very nice coins of no mean city.
Alexander III pennies. My first Scottish coin was an Alexander III penny so I pick them up whenever I can. They are a bit pricy so I only have two but I plan on buying many more. Normally I'd only buy one example of a coin unless I find a nicer one.

Thats exactly what I'm like with my collection.
but with these i just have to get them if they're reasonable. i have one thats definitely EF and i do wonder by looking at some of the MS graded ones that if i sent it in i would get it back MS60 ish. I won't though not my thing really. i always have an eye out for them though because all 5 i have are one type. I'm looking for an edge variety which says payable at the store.
I am looking for any northern tokens though they're the only ones I'm willing to collect. From Leeds up to Berwick or Carlisle.
I used to obsess over French 1/2 francs about 5-6 years ago. More recently, early 20th century Argentinian coins (5, 10, and 20 centavos - other denominations are too rare), and British pennies in lowball grade (which is to say, extremely worn).
But it almost never gets to the point when I'm compulsively buying any that I come across; I usually at least try not to buy the dates I have already, and stay away from the ones that are more than 2-3 times more expensive than the cheapest price at which they can be bought (e.g., if a coin is occasionally available for $0.5, I'm unlikely to buy one for $2, regardless of the level of my obsession).
There are a few types and series I obsess about in that I try to buy any affordable examples whenever they appear - with the caveat that the types are so rare, and my "affordable" boundary so low (usually no higher than $10 in those cases), that I have very few. In particular, I have exactly zero Scottish coins (of any pre-unification type), 16th century Lithuanian groschen, or coins of Zeno and/or Marcian (both 5th century Roman emperors), but I'm pretty sure I would buy any that I came across cheaply enough anyway; there are other series in similar condition where I have only one, or two, or three, or four (for example, I have exactly two Russian, and four non-Russian, dated coins from the 16th century).
I have an obsession for Netherlands Antilles square 5 cent coins and also Netherlands square 5 cent coins. It's because I found a square jar once and my goal was to fill it up with these square coins. Then I bought a job lot of 150 of those coins and now it's half full. Hope to fill it up to the edge one day.
Oh yes and (pure) aluminium coins. They don't need a description they're just awesome.

That's the problem with Scottish coins, they are extremely interesting with a wide variety of different designs and legends but they rarely come up for sale and the ones that do are often very expensive, even in poor condition. My main interest is in Scottish coins but for every Scottish coin I have I have at least 5 English or British coins due to the price differences and availability.

Do you have any Curacao square 5 cent coins?
I think I must add to my own description - it happens sometimes that a bargain bin will have a lot of one particular type and I will be compelled to get as much of a full date set of that type from that bin as possible.
It was as many as 24 coins of "the same" type once (Belgian 1970s 25 cent coins, 12 years in 2 languages - technically that's two Numista types), and it reached or nearly reached 20 coins on several other occasions (most recently with South Korean 10 won - 18 coins in one type, total 28 coins in three or four different types).

That's pretty nice, if you could get a load of those that'll be great. Do I have anything in my list that interests you?

No, those were separate questions. I have only the one Curacao 5 cent coin (though at least it's not my only Curacao coin now - I somehow managed to get a silver 1/10 gulden for only $1 last year).
And no, couldn't find anything, unfortunately. (But I don't really intend to swap by any kind of mail, anyway - mailing coins is just so tricky, and mailing pre-1965 coins out of my country is also illegal on top of that, so I'm not going to do that anytime soon, unfortunately.)
Any Victoria Gothic design obverse is irresistible to me. British Florins to India Annas/Rupees, I can't help it.... Glad it isn't a "just me?" thing. I feel normal now

I don't normally collect tokens but I did pick this one up a few months ago. The history behind it is what attracted me to it.
I might buy a few more tokens later on, particularly the politically motivated ones surrounding the French Revolution.
Just out of curiosity: why do you limit your token collection to the north of England?
I only keep it Northern because wonders are what i call a distraction collection. i had a lot but my true collection is british colonial coins. so decided i would keep northern coins since I'm from South Shields which is about half way between Newcastle and Sunderland and Nearly My whole family comes from Northern England, My grandparents on my mothers side are Generations from the same town and on my fathers side my Granda was from Alston in the lake district and Great grandad from my Nanas side was scottish but was a "Tyneside Jock" in the Northumberland Fusileers. (Its where the Great North Run ends) i have a few scottish coins too which i don't want to let go of but if a good Northern token came up i would have a real dilemma.I have Edinburgh and Leith that i can think of right now.

That's quite a disciplined approach to collecting. I wish I could do that, my main focus is on British, English and Scottish coins but I periodically get distracted by other types of coins. So I end up with a collection that is a strange mix of everything but I'd probably have a much better Scottish collection if I ignored the rest.
I've been quite strict with myself over the years and actually have less than 20 coins which I don't consider part of my collection but are not and never will be for swap.
Very cool topic. I'd say that there isn't one particular series or country I am completely obsessed with, rather, I jump all over any high grade blast red or nicely toned copper coin. Doesn't matter the country, the date (for the most part), or the type. If it's red and shiny or naturally colorful, I'm all over it!
Whenever I can I find 100 Mon coins cheaply I buy them, I like the form and size and maybe someday I'll find one with an uncommon sidestamp also they are the nearest I can get to an Oban/Koban coin without setting me back 1,000s or 10,000s of dollars
I found an old US coin in a junk drawer after my Mom died. I had no interest in coins or it at the time. I put it into storage with everything else. After several years I came across it again. It was a US Half-Dime. Only because of it did I start looking at coins as maybe something to collect. Don't laugh, but I soon realized that sometimes Sellers didn't know what they were selling, or what they're worth, or they just made mistakes in the listings. I made two good purchases right off the bat; bought 'Unidentified Coin' for $100.00, sold it for $700.00, and a coin accidentally listed for $41.00 instead of $410.00 (I did offer to cancel it when the Seller told me it was supposed to be listed for $410.00, but he insisted it was his mistake and he honored the purchase. He and I became friends, and I bought many dozens of coins from him over the years.)
Anyway... looking for 'mistakes' didn't last too long. I got coin fever. I specialized in World coins that 'looked pretty'... lol I got hung up on 'esthetics'... resulting from highly accomplished designers and die makers. That era produced a collection of World coins of such variety that I probably won't be able to sell when the time came. I finally put a hold on that, and started a new type of collecting about a year ago.
I now buy, or more accurately, invest in what I call 'Collectible Bullion Coins'. .. government issued coins with a silver content of 72% or higher (rarely below that), in AU or better Grades, and with a very, very small spread between their intrinsic value and Numismatic value. I've convinced myself that they are the safest investment . They are also not that easy to find. Anyway, anyone interested in a great World coin collection with lots of 'pretty' coins... lol
