The German States catalogue has just reached a small milestone with 3.000 different coins in its catalogue!

I may have added only 500 or so German States coins, so I would like to give my heartfelt gratitude and a special thanks to the many catalogue contributors for the German States not only to the ones who added new coins but also to the ones that have improved current coin sheets with additional information, pictures and translations.

Awesome news !
Thanks for the great work you've put into the German States !
And if we didn't split out some other territories which were in those old times German (Lorraine was initially German like Bohemia, Habsburg Austria was German too, Swiss cantons were also German again...), this milestone would have been reached much more quicker.

Nice!

Hopefully, we can have little country list (inside main country list) for all those states.

About splits, it is all about it how we understand word "German". I would say that all opinions here have some cons.

If we take it too politically, Bohemia would be wrongly included as part of HRE. (Named only one case, there would be more)

If we take it too nationally, we would have to include austrian states there and exclude French territories etc..

Both approaches are pretty wrong and created problems. For example, Bohemian Silesia (habsburg coins/part pf Bohemian state) is in German states because Germans lived there.

And finally, due to events of border and people movements in 20th century, we cannot even take territorial approach (which would take to German states only those which are on today's Germany's territorry. (Which is wrong again...)

How about listing them by the entity that issued them?

I love the German States coins, but that 3,000+ number is the reason why I'll probably never seriously get into collecting them.
Just a few 1000 more to go ;) keep up the good fight
I just wish that country rework is done soon by Xavier. That must be painfull to browse and work in this.

But that does not stop me from adding some more coins there. :P

Wow, Italian states only has 1222 coins! Anyone want to help adding some?
I will sure be adding some if I find them in Czech auctions. :°

That is my main problem, is finding pictures. I am unable to navigate through all of those Czech and German auction houses, even with Google Translate, because they spell the country names differently. I have used Stacks and Bowers, and Heritage Auctions 99% of the time.

Maybe if I knew how to spell the country (states) names, I could search.
Thanks everyone. I still have many many thousands to go :wiz: but I will never give up.

Browsing past auctions is a great source to find information. Too bad that all past pictures from sixbid from before 2016 seem to have disappeared after their latest website update. :snif:
