Well I just got a George II sixpence today. That means that I just need a coin from James II and I'll have a coin from every UK ruler from Charles II to George VI. Anyone have a picture of a James II coin or can go backwards from Charles II
Charles II fourpence 1683
William III sixpence 1697
Anne sixpence 1711
George I shilling 1723
My new George II sixpence 1757
George III shilling 1817
George IV shilling 1826
William IV shilling 1835
Victoria shilling 1872
Edward VII sixpence 1903
George V shilling 1911
I don't have any UK coins, but I do have some coins for Edward VIII
I'm in a very similar situation. Just need Edward VIII and James II/VII and I'll have one coin from every British monarch from James I/VI to Elizabeth II. If you count pre union of the crowns monarchs I'd have an unbroken line going back to James V and Elizabeth I.
I used to have a James II gunmoney coin but it disappeared shortly after I bought it.
I am proud to say, that I, do have an unbroken line of monarchs from Charles II to Elizabeth II
Listing my favourite coin from each monarch:
-1673 Charles II Crown
-1687 James II Crown (rare piece I think)
-1693 William and Mary 1/2 pence Ireland
-1707 E Anne Crown
-1723 George I Shilling
-1758 George II Shilling
-1763 George III Maundy 3 Pence
-1825 George IV Half-Crown
-1836 William IV Half-Crown
-1866 Victoria Hongkong 1/2 Dollar
-1902 Edward VII Crown (Coronation)
-1913 George V 1/3 Farthing
-1936 British East Africa Edward VIII 5 cents
-1937 Australia George VI Crown (Coronation)
-1953 Elizabeth II Crown (Coronation)
I don't have a Charles II coin. Nor a James VII coin, obviously (and I think that's the correct number).
I also don't have any coins from Anne and George IV. Not sure about George I and II, I have two or three very worn (and/or damaged) British halfpennies/farthings of that period, and I can't recall the specific pictured ruler.
Oh, and Mary. Shouldn't forget Mary. (You know, the other half of William and Mary.)
I have coins from all the other British monarchs in that period (including William III, William IV and Edward VIII - one of the African coins for the latter).
I'd love to get some of the early ones sometime, but I'm concentrating on other things at the moment. Eventually I'd like to have a royal line all in one coin. Like the shilling or a penny or something from each ruler, and just go back as far as I can.
I stopped at Charles II milled issues. If I had the money I would head back to the commonwealth.
my favourite James II is a gun money half crown. May 1690 which is a nice grade but also I'm intrigued at my catholic roots 300 years to the month of my birth.
i also have a shilling. Struck at the other mint (I forgot the name) portrait is a little more crude looking.
Those are some beautiful coins, you guys. My collection is mainly modern UK from Victoria onwards but I do have one hammered coin, a Charles I Rose Farthing, here's the Numista page: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces42092.html and here's my coin:
It's obviously seen better days and I can't be sure of the exact type but I got it in a swap from another Brit and I thought it was quite neat considering the turbulent time in our history from which it came.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
I just got a George I farthing (1717, the small sized "dump" issue, Numista rarity 93, somehow) from a 50 ruble (~80 cents) bargain bin (that was a really lucky find, apparently).
Crap grade, mind you; just barely enough to identify (the date is mostly there, and between that, size, the Britannia, and profile direction I've fortunately figured it out).
In any case, that means I have a George I coin, so I only need Anne, George II and George IV for a full line from William III (and I probably already have a George II coin somewhere, so it's only Anne and George IV that would be tricky to find).
I've hardly any coins pre-1900, so I've only the last 5 rulers (minus Edward VIII), but on quite a few countries' coins:
Victoria
Jamaica (1894 penny)
UK (1892 penny and 1890 shilling)
Edward VII
UK (1908 1/2 penny)
George V
Australia
Canada
Fiji (name only, no portrait)
India, British
Malaya
New Zealand
Newfoundland
Southern Rhodesia
Straits Settlements
UK
George VI
Australia
British East Africa
British Guiana
Canada
Ceylon
Cyprus
Fiji (name only, no portrait)
Hong-Kong
India, British
UK
Elizabeth II - well, she's EVERYWHERE!
Edward VII was king for only 10 months in 1936 (before he abdicated and married a divorced American woman), so there aren't a lot of coins with him on them, and then it's just a name, w/o a portrait:
British West Africa - 1/10d, 1/2d, 1d, and 10d (mule)
British East Africa - 5c and 10c
British New Guinea - 1d (km6) - stylized royal monogram
