Current sorting of coins by eras

I think that is current sorting of coins of particular country a bit annoying:
usually is there first currrency of past times, after that coin of present, then coins of particular city state in this country in past times?!?

Examples: Portugal, Spain.

Shouldn't be currencies sorted by time of use? However I think that last should be current currency...!

Hi Borut,

you are right. This is because all currencies were sorted by Xavier (he is now working on delegating this authority) and new ones added are sorted alphabetically, as he is overwhelmed by number of issues - which is in turn the reason why new administration is being worked on.

I believe we shal see improvements in these fields in some time.

I think the "old currencies, new currencies, local city currencies" is a completely normal sorting system, as long as it is applied consistently. This is not always the case, unfortunately, but most of the differences are due to what Jarcek said above; if fixed, the result would still look like what the OP described (as long as the "particular city states" exist).

It won't be possible to sort by time everywhere because of the entries like German States that sort by state and not (significantly) by currency. What we actually have (or supposed to have, see above) is "currencies of main state chronologically, then sub-states alphabetically, currencies within that chronologically", which makes perfect sense - to me at least (it certainly makes more sense than either a complete chronological list, which would have all the different sub-states mixed with each other, or a complete alphabetical list that would put the main state in the middle of the list of sub-states).

On my side, I'm tired of always having to go to nearly the end of the coin list (and/or scroll almost to the bottom of the currency list) just to get to the regular 20th century coins that pretty much everyone will be looking for anyway. But it does make sense to sort the coins from old to new (and not from new to old) within the currencies themselves, and when we have that we might as well apply it to currency order. (And if it means that 20th century coins will come after all the coins from earlier centuries, then so be it; it's not that problematic, anyway.)
Well, for me it isn't logical to have most recent coin on the middle and some coin from renaissance at the end...  :(
