Krishna is generally portrayed as having all earthly traits of a human being despite of being incarnation of god vishnu. So being a child he used to love butter and would get it without the knowledge of his mother who was restrictive.

The the lion represents the Rashtrakutas, a dynasty whose symbol was the lion and with which Bhoja was in a constant struggle for supremacy (as per Pieper and Tandon)...
