Let's see nature from where you live!

As there is turmoil plaguing other forum pages with people getting scammed, I thought this would be the best opportunity to calm some nerves and just express nature from where you live.

Here is a picture of my recent kayaking trip at one of the most popular lakes that I live near.
Excellent post!

Here is Llanos de Cortes Waterfall in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, around 3 hours from my house in car.

This is the quay side in Newcastle the largest City close to me.

And this is the coastal View we have from the beach in my home town.

I think some people are a bit confused about what constitutes "nature"

Man made structures can't really be counted as nature

Here's the view from a glacier we climbed up to at Glenorchy (near Queenstown)

:| Oh, sorry. I guess this might qualify as "nature" despite of the man made bench, eh. But it's another 25 min drive to Squamish...

And 2 more hours drive, just passed Whistler would bring you to Joffre Lakes

and a glacier...

I wish everyone would post where they live, but from these photos I guess Vancouver. A beautiful city and area, and should be on everyone's world tour, that and Victoria on Vancouver island!
Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Here am I staring at some flowers, the study of flora and fauna is one of my life long passions This is on the Appalachian trail. This is from Big Bald, just google, big bald mountain. I carried the Scottish flag just for fun. My heritage is Scottish, but I have never been to Scotland......yet.

For myself, it has always been insects. I have some Audubon books stashed away somewhere dating my finds.

My two favourites (and somewhat rare) were....

Polyphemus Moth

I was "dumped off" after Stag Night on my front porch in 1994 and saw this huge moth (6" wingspan). It was still there the next day, so it wasn't alcohol induced.

Burying Beetle

Our barn cats left many "partly eaten" rodents around the property. I saw a "very dead" shrew slowly moving through the garden. Upon closer inspection, one of these was dragging him for burial.

(I grabbed these photos from the net. Hey, we're talking the early 90's here)

I am trying to find the nest. I have seen them before, and the nests are as big as a car.

You lucky, lucky people with your glaciers and butterflies. We get 15ft, 800lb gators. Nasty brutes they are.

Shame. We get the cardinals in Houston as well, but the trees look different...
I only have a garden here, one filled with cats. Regent’s Park is only a few minutes away, so I enjoy it pretty much every weekend.
Here’s a picture of my cat Ethel in the garden...

The other one likes to sleep on top of the old bomb shelter at the back of the garden.
Well, frankly speaking, my country is a concrete jungle so I wasn't sure whether I will be able to find a decent picture. I took this picture about 2 years ago. It's just a stone's throw away from where I live.

What an old thread! I wasn't aware of it.
Pictures from the forests of my city.

Also I have an interest in local birds and bird photography.

This is a photograph of the valley at the back of my house. I live in rural Somerset in south west England.
You can make out my holly bush, just in front of the roof line. (see 2nd photograph)

This was on my holly bush last weekend, with that awesome looking spike at its rear. No idea what it will turn into. Only seen it for one afternoon, then it was gone

Great to see the diversity of the wildlife and landscapes.
I am lucky to have some great lakes and mountains just a short hike or bike ride away.
This is Brienzersee:

The snowy Mönch (the Monk - 4,107m) and the rocky face of the Eiger (3,967m) above the little town of Grindelwald:

And here is lake Brienz from above, and you can see the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau on the left:

The Grosse Scheidegg, 1,962m:

And okay, this is a slightly longer bike ride from my home, but the lake is totally worth it:

Cool pic!!
Nice evening and day.

He is at home at home and I think there are a lot of nice places to live in the world. The surrounding area is often visited by photographers. I live in nature after the end of my military career when I changed crews too many times-military base . I bought a former horse school show jumping in the garden and I grow fruit just for fun I do not fertilize and do not spray chemically, the fruit there falls to the ground, rots, it's work this way I prepared a herb garden.

Silver coins were among the first coins ever used, thousands of years ago. The silver standard was used for centuries in many places of the world. And the use of silver for coins, instead of other materials, has many reasons.

Thanks for all those great and beautiful pictures !!!

I do a little bit of birdwatching -when numismatics rests- and try to get some nice pictures of chilean birds.

The following pictures were taken last spring out of my dining-room's window:

Mom and kids of a new Jilguero - family (Carduelis barbatus). We had them as neighbours for almost two months: from nest construction through chick- feeding until flying excersises!!

These pictures come from the south of the country, and were taken during our last pre-pandemia vacations:

A Martin Pescador / Kingfisher (Ceryle torquata) at lake Petrohué, and a Loica (Sturnella Loyca) caught at the entrance of a National Park near Lonquimay, where the araucarias grow.

And finally a Tiuque (Milvago chimango), the most common bird of prey in this country, looking proudly over the lake Llanquihue and the volcanoes Puntiagudo and Osorno:

Have a nice Sunday!!

I took a recent trip to my homeland the South Island of New Zealand. As you may know its midwinter down here at the moment and we get snow in our mountains!

Port Hills near Christchurch, before the snow - a rare warm winter's day where it got to 20 degrees (Average high 9 degrees) - these show Lyttelton Harbour, a few days later this was under 20cm of snow!!

Lyttelton township on a sunny Saturday (Before you aske where the snow is, its coming). This was a day with a high of 12 degrees and these shots show the noon day sun, it only rises to 23 degrees above the horizon. That means your shadow is 2.4 times longer than yourself. Last photos show new container ports, beyond Godley and Adderly heads is basically the port of Valparasio some 9000km away!

On Monday a freezing southerly came (Southerlies are the BAD cold winds here in the Southern Hemisphere, here we are at 42 - 43 degrees south and the winds are from 65 - 70 degrees south!

Jacks Pass at 870m and the first bits of snow landing on me. Last photo is en route to Lewis Pass and into the snow!!!

Jacks Pass looking down to Hanmer Springs, snow at Lewis Pass as it lands (900m or 3000ft) which is borderline subalpine here.

Magical snow pictures of the Lewis Pass

Snowy masterpieces, all taken Monday June 28th.

As we left the mountain pass, we dropped below the "snow line" and the weather came out to bright sun and temperatures hit a balmy 6 degrees (It was 0 - 2 at the pass, we never get like -20 snow here, its alway near or just over freezing). This climate would be like Seattle rather than Quebec.
