A gentlemen I frequently share a bus ride with and have a chat to whilst waiting for the buses, knows of my interest in coins. He stopped me in the street whilst I was walking to the local shop on Sunday morning and asked if I would be returning the same way in the next few minutes. I told him yes, I was just calling in the shop for a few things and would be back down, so he told me he had a couple of coins his sister had collected from her travels and he wanted to pass them along to me. Anyway, when I came out of the shop he was waiting for me and passed me a plastic bag with some coins and a few notes in. He explained she had given him the bank notes as well and asked if I wanted them too. I don't actively seek to collect bank notes, I do have a few but not many so I was touched by the thought. Here's what was in the bag when I got home:
I just wanted to share with you all to prove that sometimes just the smallest acts of kindness can really brighten up someone's day
Wow how kind of the man to give you a bag of coins and notes, the banknotes are nice too
I have quite a few subscribers to my You Tube who send me gifts packages from all over the globe and I always make the effort to make a video saying thank you and return the gift by sending something back, I also watch carefully at other channels who collect coins etc and sometimes just give away coins that they are finding hard to find in there country and it is a nice feeling when they make a video saying thank you to me
Was talking to the same gentleman as in the original posting today and he again said he's been given a handful of foreign coins off his brother who'd recently been travelling. What amazing coins I found them to be when I got back home:
7 x Mauritius, 7 x Barbados, 1 x Aruba, 1 x USA and 1 x St Helena (which counts as a new country for me).
What an awesome story! And it sounds like a nice new friendship forming there.
I pictured him coming out with a cartoon bag with a big $ sign on it too, which amused me if nothing else.
As a coin collector in general it can be scary to talk about your hobby sometimes, you don't want the wrong people to think you have hordes of gold lying around like some sort of modern-day pirate. It's nice to have a reminder to have a little faith.
I have a great new story. It is odd so many people have been very kind to me here. And must in this post have help me, in more than coins. Lee help stay here with a silver penny. Made me know there are a lot of good people here. And both Phil's have been nothing but great to me. And there are so many more. So I just want to thank everyone.
Valdij sent me a PM I can fill some empty holes for you. He just sent me a great deal of coins all I need. Still have not counted of put in my collection. Yugoslavia , I thought my collection was nice at 149 coins. He sent me 20 plus of coins I did not have from Yugoslavia. A lot of commemorative and FAO coins I did not think I would ever have. And a lot of Slovenia coins, and other places. But quite a few of the stork coins. The day I got his coins I saw are woodland paired stork by work. For the first time this year. They been having young there for the last 3 or 4 years. It quite funny watch two storks walking around with 2 or 3 baby's with them. Baby stork look funny and next to mom and dad look like little fluff balls. So it hit a soft spot.
This last 4 weeks have been hard. Been working 6 days a week. And working on getting an apartment really for rent. And been to the doc 3 three times, all is fine. The hardest thing was a friends kid died , very out of the blue. He was 42 and in good heath, well everyone thought. Life should never be taken for granted. So easily gone. But put me in a darker area of my history.
The weather been nuts yesterday we had 60 degrees. Tonight 6 to 9 inch's of snow and a high of 29. And more snow Saturday. Have to run now thank you all. And make someone smile yours daryl
ALLRED1950, I hope you're doing better now. The moment with the cranes must have been wonderful.
I'd like to add my stories too, I've only been on this forum for a year but I've always found the people here kind and helpful. For a scrub it can be very intimidating to join a small community, especially when it seems like you're asking the obvious questions, but I've never been made to feel silly or unwelcome.
A few months ago I bought a gift for my father, a full set of 1967 Canadian circulation coins, and it came in a cardboard "frame" and plastic sleeve. After doing some research I couldn't find that type of holder anywhere, and didn't know if it was the best option for me or the coins. I asked here and got a lot of great answers. The cardboard wasn't the best option for the coins, which was what I thought, the fibers were bad for the coin surfaces and they weren't in there securely. I decided to get a hard case for them.
Being housebound due to illness, and with a very limited income, I was trying to figure out how to get a case at a price I could afford. My dad is the only one who could make a trip to the shop to get one for me, but that would blow the surprise. It seemed like my only option. Then a member here offered to send me a spare they had, and wouldn't take payment or trade for it.
Another member here was nice enough to send me some coins from both New Zealand and Finland, two countries whose coins I've always been fond of but had very little opportunity to get. They're now proudly added to my binder.
Thank you Numista, I hope I can pay it forward someday soon.
This is beautiful and one of the big reasons I love collecting coins people can be very kind with coins especially when they have no value to the people giving them. Obviously there are sellers and people that ruin it but the kindness of people and the bringing together coin collecting does, its magical Best feeling every when people do things like that, or remember to look out for them for you :)
