'Satin Specimen' British coins

4 posts
Occasionally you see these pop up at auction, but what actually are they? What was their intended use and what is the history behind them etc? Does anybody have pictures?

One such example is here - https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces21941.html - 1925, 2 minted

Thanks.
It is my understanding that they were used for photography by the Royal Mint

This is exactly right, they where produced with a satin finish for photography purpose this is also the reason they are very rare and expensive.
This remember me a bright finish and I haven't see any difference :D
