10 Centesimi - Vittorio Emanuele II "Rare"

9 posts
I have this 1862 10 Centesimi coin from Italy,
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces726.html

When I was adding to my collection list, I noticed the word "rare" in the comment field.
I was excited, for a few seconds, when I realized there are lot of users with this same year without mintmark with this coin for swap.

Question: Why there are such comment, what criteria was used to add that, or is just a mistake?

What does "rare" means in the current subject?
Am I missing something?

Picture:
It is worth a touch more than the 1862M, but no reference to it being "rare" from what I can see or find.

Not sure if the NGC entry includes the mintage from the 1863 which is 80 million.

Catalogue value is about 4 times that of the coin with the "M" however, even the Italian Gigante catalogue (Known for overestimating rarity) only calls it uncommon.

I collect anything: If it's Italian or Italian states i collect it even more!
Our catalog has a lot of mistakes with the comment "rare". I few years back I brought up one like this. Pakistan 5 paisa Km#52 1994. In the comment field it says "confirmed, very rare". Right now I have 4 in my swap list in XF 2 in my collection. And swapped about 6 or 8 of them. Not bad for a coin "confirmed, very rare" Would you like one I will trade one for a small gold coinX-D. And it is still in are catalog. Wonder how many people have been taken with this little gem.
It is, what it is, or is it.
I realized the 5 Centesimi also have this comment. In this case is "very rare" (!!!) There are 3 users willing to swap this coin.

Yes I know, it is very sad that our catalog can mislead people. When used as proof it rare on e-bay when it is common.
It is, what it is, or is it.
I would like to specify that 10 cents of Vittorio Emanuale II are all considered common (apart from a few pieces). But I consider VERY RARE these coins in exceptional preservation. After 15 years of collecting I managed to find a single piece MS, and I can guarantee that I paid a lot. Ask how many users have pieces like that.
For these coins, the hundredfold value from a low to a high conservation.
Even for the 5 cent 1861, which is ALWAYS rare, ask whoever has a higher than VF.

I would also defend the Italian catalog mentioned (Gigante) as no one can doubt the information reported.
Unfortunately, now I think that the rarity of the coins do not go according to circulation, but the actual preservation, but I understand that it becomes very complicated to make a catalog of the genre.
