Question about 1971 Mexican Peso - odd coin

3 posts
Hi,

I am hoping someone here can help me. I am always amazed at the vast amount of knowledge the people on these boards seem to have. I have a 1971 Mexico Peso that is different than any other that I have seen. It appears to be bronze. I have posted a picture of the coin below, along with the standard copper-nickel peso from the same year.

It appears to be this: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces69477.html

However, I have been unable to find anything else in my searches on the internet relating to this coin. Any thoughts or information about this coin would be much appreciated. Thank you!

When buried in moist soil, nickel and nickel alloys gradually turn black. Your coin appears to have started this process.
The top of the two coins is the bronze (or what I believe to be bronze) version of the coin.

The bottom of the two coins is the standard copper-nickel coin, of which I have several all of which are the same tone/color. I included the bottom coin in the picture to show the contrast of the material that the coins are made out of.

It is the top coin that I am interested in information about, as the Numista entry for the coin indicates that it is a "Pattern Strike" coin. It does appear to be the "Pattern Strike" coin. Does anyone have any thoughts on what type of value that might have?
