Coins with planes/first flight commemoratives

Hi everybody.

I was wondering if anyone knows of some coins that have an airplane on them or coins that for example commemorate a first flight such as the €2 from Malta that was produced this year. I've already got that one, the €2,50 from Portugal that commemorates their Air Force, the €3 from Slovenia from 2009 and the North Carolina State Quarter. I'm not interested in silver coins though. Every response will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks ahead.

Kind regards, Eddie

Added these 6 coins from Gibraltar last week to Numista website. Waiting for them to be validated.

All are silver proofs and came with certificates
I'm just a collector of coins, not a slave to it, unless I am in a coin shop.

Do you also get the Hungarian Krajczar ?? 1740ies !! I have always thought Maria Theresia was a ruler quite advanced for her time, but a first flight :P

I'd better fix that one up.
First token with a plane (1959):

First coin with a plane (1977):

Australia issued 2 different $1 coins in 1997 depicting Sir Charles Kingsford Smith.

Born in 1897 Sir Charles Kingsford-Smith was an early Australian aviation pioneer. He is best known in Australia for making the first Pacific crossing from Australia to the USA, setting a speed record from Australia to London of 10.5 days, and for disappearing while attempting to set yet more records. He is an iconic figure in Australian history and his blue Fokker Tri-Motor aircraft, the Southern Cross is equally well known in popular culture.

These are the 2 coins ....

The one on the left (KM# 327) was placed into circulation.
The one on the right (KM# 355) is a NCLT coin issued mainly as a coincard.

Another more recent Australian Airplane related release was the 2014 "G" for George $1 coin.
"G for George" is an historic Australian war plane that can be found on display at the War Memorial in Canberra. It is a four engined Avro Lancaster bomber. This coin was issued by the RAM in a coin card. It does not have a KM# yet.

Also the Royal Australian Mint issued this NCLT 50 cent coin in 2014 as a tribute to those who served in the Australian Flying corps. The AFC answered the call for resources, supplying four officers and 41 men in support of the Anglo-Indian forces. The brave men of the AFC were from many backgrounds and left a diverse legacy. Two officers, Hudson Fysh and Paul McGinness, purchased an Avro aircraft laying the foundations for the Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Service, better known today as Qantas. (No KM# issued yet)

Hi everybody

I know how wound everyone can get about tokens and circulating coins , so I keep seeing on eBay 6 coins highlighting the MG plane - I think they are Russian, but I assume non circulating coins.

The USA quarter 2002 "OHIO"has the Wright brothers' airplane and it says " birth place of aviation pioneers".

There is another US quarter that has that airplane as well, but I can't recall which. It should be something after 2008.
Trade only within the US.
Neutralitätsschutz
A policy of neutrality is what kept Switzerland away from the turmoil of the two world wars in the 20th century. A policy which could only be enforced by deterring potential aggressors. I felt quite amused when noticing the concept of this very Swiss policy crystallized in a commemorative token that came up for sale. (It's a crown size nickel-copper token/medal: I acquired it for little money.) Having a "face value" of 5 ecu, it has never been legal tender in Switzerland. Appealing to fans of vintage planes for sure

Hi All,

This thread is interesting, as a fairly new collector - it didn't occur to me collect subjects on coins rather than the countries or the dates, but clearly this thread shows that this is a popular trend. There are plenty to chose from too planes, animals, medals, all sorts. A few collectors have suggested this a great way to get young children interested which I totally support.

So I tried to do a bit of both , I collect bi metallic coins from anywhere but if I come across a series on those coins ,I'll try and get the. I have series of Olympic bi metallics from uk (and now Brazil) also zodiac animals from Russia and China and trying to get animals on turkey bi metallic. I am always a bit reluctant on forums to talk about series because collectors come up with more targets for me to collect.(See my forum thread on 'Cute Animals').

Getting back on topic , the Isle of Man have a series of crowns on wwii aircraft.

regards
A rider to my comment : Gibraltar Crowns also have a series of aircraft
The French Shell tokens have lots of aircraft. Search for "jeton shell" in the database.
A quick search with the word airplane will list at least 39 coins

But I always see the colorful commemoratives ones at my local coin shop similar to this one https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces38244.html I know there are more of this type as I always see then in the show case... I think there is one with a Swiss Air Plane or very similar to one of theirs...

It's a set of 22 silver proof multi-color coins, covering 70 years of aviation history. The coins were issued by Benin (6), Chad (4), Republic of Congo (6) and Togo (6) between 2001 and 2004.
The set was originally designed to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Swissair. That's why you see so many Swissair planes on the coins:

The one in your link however is not part of that "History of Aviation" set. It's also a Republic of Congo issue but from several years earlier (and not in silver).

I'm not happy ?

I dont have a local coin shop and if I did I bet I wouldn't be able to afford them!

I I don't mind coloured coins and I like planes so they look great to me.
Hello,

A nice plane depicted on a 1988 10 fr french coin, and the second is the symbol of the planes of the Escadrille des cigognes (Guynemer was one of the pilots) during the WWI.

Hong Kong has a 1998 coin commemorating the opening of their International Airport.

Singapore has a 1997 series commemorating the 50th anniversary of their Singapore Airways

Haiti has a 1977 coin commemorating the 50th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh's transatlantic crossing.
Here are a few more Australian ones for you. All issued in 2019 in a seven coin set to commemorate 100 years since the Great Air Race which was run between London & Sydney.
