My only goal is to add my whole collection to the database before the end of 2016. I hope to succeed but I have serious doubts about it.
As soon as that gigantic work is finished, everything will go much easier and I can focus on swapping but till then it stays hectic.
get a few more Russian late empire - early USSR silver types. Would really like a silver rouble in XF or better, but they tend to be pretty expensive in that condition
add more pre-Elizabeth II Canadian types
I got a lot of Japan types recently - would be interesting to see if I can find a few more to get the count to 50+
grab some new 2016 bullion - just the ones that have annual design changes, 6 coins or so?
get any new US Commemorative dollars and halves
maybe add a couple more older US commemorative halves, the ones that actually circulated
add at least one new country every month - currently at 208, so shouldn't be difficult
limit spending!!! - There are 2 major coin shows I go to every year. The last one was in the spring. I spent several hours and twice as much as I planned there. The big fall show is coming up in just a few days! Need to keep it under control this time, so I still have some spare money left for other fun stuff! :)
go to the chicago international coin show on april 16
get at least one coin from danish w indies, danzig, order of malta, hejaz and greenland. refer to bullet point 1( and too many other countries to list )
buy 2x2's for all the loose coins I have sitting on my desk( every time I go to the coin store I plan on buying some but I end up coming out with all coins and no flips!)
begin to focus on the countries i(d) really love to collect, turkey/otto, russia russia empire modern russia, panama, brazil, new zealand
I do not have many goals for 2016.
1. Get to 300 countries. 1 to go.
2. Keep exchanging with you guys/gals
3. Buy coins I like.
4. Find space to keep them
Quote: "Mark240590"I think I want to for the third year running continue the upgrade programme and as part of that I won't be buying low grade coins.
You and I are of a like mind Mark old buddy. Funny how when you first start collecting, anything and everything will do, so long as you have a copy of it. Then after a few years you look back and say "what the hell was I thinking?"

indeed mate, it's a sticky trap and it's funny how you never listen to more experienced collectors.. Just as you never listened to your parents.
I would have gone for next year to buy a really nice coin but it's more likely going to be this year I'm gunna buy myself a nice 1804 Bank of England dollar. Looking to spend around £4/500 on a good one. My evasions collection will cover it nicely.
Goals for 2016.

try to get to 300 countries (225 right now)
try to put all my coins in albums (Importa) depending on my mother since she lives in the Netherlands were they are sold.
get my number per type up for as many countries as possible
I'm going to have my 250th country in my listing. If I'd add a goal it'd be to reach the 300 country limit.

I have all, bot P &D. Started to collect them when they just started to issue :) I didnot collect then African coinage ... and couldnot leave then :) They look very nice in special album, and there were also 6 extra "bags", where I put added more american " lands " also both P and D
Yes, I have them in a "map" album, spaces for all 50 states, plus 6 District of Columbia and United States Territories, plus a further 56 spaces for the 2nd mint. Looks really nice, will be better when it's completed! I have one for the America the beautiful quarters also, but don't have many in there yet :)
- Participate in as many swaps on Numista as possible.
- Reach 150 countries (now at 122, but I think I've got most of the "easy" ones already).
- Complete a type set of 20th century predecimal British non-silver coins (about 22 left, should be achievable).
- Look for promising opportunities for "treasure hunting" (e.g., bulk lots, bargain bins, etc.).
- Stay within my monthly collecting budget and within my wife's tolerance for me staying up late playing Ebenezer Scrooge with the stacks of coins on my desk!
-My goal's for 2016 is to finish off as many of my missing dates on British Pre Decimal denominations as far back as 1700, then onto older coins :-)
-Upgrade the coins I already have.
-Adding old banknotes that I do not have as a side hobby.
-Listing as many coins as I can.
-Exchanging as many coins as I can :-)
My GOALS
Help managing catalogue.
Became a referee.
Getting at least one state DONE - I collect europe by year and mintmark.
Get more coins.
Swap those I do not want.
I hope to get the New Zealand trade tokens catalogue completed (I've got about 40 more New Zealand ones to add.) - No work done on this, I've been busy with other things
After that I want to get started on the Australian trade tokens. - Same with this, I'll get onto it when I've completed New Zealand
My coin collection
I hope to get at least 2 of my lower grade coins upgraded per month - I did a major upgrade push this month and got 7 of my coins upgraded
I want to buy at least one decent value coin per month (catalogue value of $40+) - I had a good month here too and managed to get 3 x $40 and over value coins.
I want to get my collection back into coin pages and get them organised properly. - The coins are now in pages and I have the flags done for all the countries. I now need to re-label them all and get them organised properly.
My goals for 2016 are still the same. get my collection in order. And gave a lot of coins away this spring. And catalog 1000 coins from the UK. At around 650 now.
I've bought a few upgrades, a Jamaica penny's few weeks back, Nigeria 2 Shillings, and I've already upgraded 4 of my Canadian provinces tokens. One is the American flag ships colonies and commerce :)
I've bought some flips so am starting to organise my collection too I've also smashed the £500 barrier I wanted too :)

Well, I've already reached 150 countries as of yesterday, so I guess I will set 200 as a new goal.

Congrats smoked_caramel, that's an impressive swap record. Think I'm only about a third of the way to that target, so a good few many swaps still to go. Let's see how many you can actually get to by the end of 2016.

Quote: "g00n"Right, I haven't set my goals for 2016, so here goes.
- Finally finish identifying all my coins and putting them in coin holders, pages and albums
- Start entering my collection on Numista
I think just that will keep me busy during the year... Other than that - keep swapping and building my collection :-)
Well, this has gone better than expected. All my coins (except the Chinese ones mentioned in another post that I'm struggling with) have been identified, put in coin holders and album pages. Going to need at least 25-30 more albums to put the pages in though, so that will be going slowly when I have the money to buy some.
"Start entering my collection on Numista"? Finished that several months ago, so that went faster than expected as well...
I guess I'll have to make some new goals at some point then :-)

Nothing unrealistic I don't think
23rd October and today I completed final goal:
Get to 2,000 different types - Now at Exactly 2,000 (523 types added this year)
Get to 200 countries - Now at 209 (44 countries added this year)
Get to 4,000+ coins - Now at 4,258 (1,180 coins added this year)
Get to 100+ coins for my birth year 1976 - Now at 156 (92 1976 coins added this year)

I will see exactly where I stand on 31st December and decide on some more goals for next year
get a few more Russian late empire - early USSR silver types.

The big fall show is coming up in just a few days! Need to keep it under control this time, so I still have some spare money left for other fun stuff! :)
Wow, has it been a year already? Well, I'm happy to say that I've accomplished most of what I was aiming for.
done
sadly, I've hardly added any Canadian coins this year
currently at 56 types, so I'm happy with the progress. Other than a few more types from 1870-1 and early 1900s and the big silver Yens (Japanese trade dollar), high-denomination golds, and modern day commemoratives, there are only a few more types left
got 5 out of the 6 I was considering buying - decided to pass on the 2016 Tokelau reverse proof Year of the Monkey, as I've only seen them offered by APMex at more than double the previous years' price!
done - grabbed a couple proof silver $1s and clad half
postponed
done - 40 new countries added
all is under control here
Going to have to start thinking about setting new goals soon.
Quote: "JRo69"Goal Added: To complete the Numista Map.
Nine dots to go. Missed this one thanks to my air conditioner dying before my birthday. So instead of coins, I chose cool and comfort.
This is an achievable goal for 2017.
