Unknown brass token - possibly African

7 posts
I've had this brass token for a few years and have not been able to identify it.

It was purchased in an antique shop in Windhoek, Namibia. It could be from anywhere, though. The slash through the "c" on the reverse seems more American than Southern African.

The diameter is 21.3mm and the weight is 4.6. Any help, including a proper reading of the monogram, would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Petrus. I have done so.
The monogram is a company - either 'W N Co' or 'N W Co' as I have seen similar on a token with MOCI jumbled letters on it, and it means 'I M Co' when unscrambled.

Only a guess, but WN Co. makes sense to me, as you picked it up in Windhoek, Namibia...Maybe?

Almost sure that it is not from africa.
By the way, - why do You think so? ( that it might be from africa)
Good question, Dato! - only because I got it from a friend who bought it for me in Namibia.

Actually, I don't think it is African either but I cannot exclude the possibility that it is, which is why that seemed like a good place to start.

@muygrandeoso: I have considered that possibility but Namibia was known as South West Africa until 1990 and I'm almost certain that this token predates that transition. It is unlikely that a shop owner would have used the modern name for their business because that would have attracted unwelcome attention from the security forces.
