Zinc uncirculated colour?

5 posts
I have just been given these two by my better half's grandmother.
I have a few of these but all look dark, I assumed all war time 25 cents were dark, Then I saw this one, is this a natural colour? I cant find any scratch marks to indicate it has been vigorously cleaned, but of course it could have been put in some kind of cleaning acid.

I am no pro when it comes to zinc coins, I only have a handful of them.

I put it next to another zinc 25 cents for colour comparison.

any input would be greatly appreciated.

The color on it looks okay to me. I have seen mostly WWII zinc-coated U.S. cents, both circulated and uncirculated. Back in the 1960s and 70s, a lot of the U.S. zinc coated cents were "reprocessed", which means they were re-coated with zinc. These reprocessed cents have a shinier surface than the originals.
Uncirculated zinc coins looks almost like made from alumínium. As it is oxidized, it turns to the dark grey colour. And alumínium does not.
Yes, I had quite a few zinc coins from the 1950s-1960s and they all had that light grey colour.
So it seems this one has been well stored then. :`
