Hi all

I bought a few coins at a local bootsale for 50p each this morning and I think this is a fake (Or it's been eroded badly!)
I can't find my calipers so have measured it roughly with a tape measure  z)
It's around 26mm and appears to be some kind of brass/bronze..

Can anyone tell from the bad pics if it's real or fake?? It's a long shot due to the wear, I can't even make out a date  x.

Kind regards, John  :)
I used to be indecisive but now i'm not so sure!!
I think I can make out 1487 or 97 in the r/h pic!! (not 100% sure though  B.  )

Kind regards, John  :)

Hmm!

Having googled several searches for short cross and longcross coins, None of the British ones have the 'feet' at the end of the legs of the cross!!
Spanish and Portuguese seem to have this type of cross but not in a circle and having a square on the opposite side!!

I still have a feeling that it's 'trying to be something that it's not'!!  8~

I would say it ends with 48

The obverse side showing 4 fleur de lis within a diamond, that is not a British design that I can find, possibly French trading token or Jeton? The reverse short cross is a common design.

The obverse is very familiar but I cant put my finger on from where 8.  I can think of a few that have 3 fleur de lis, but not 4, especially within a diamond shape.

Trading token is what I would hazard a guess at.

Can you take more pics but with the flash? that will show detail better thus making it easier for me to enhance. :)

EDIT: After searching a little more it seems it is a late 15th-early 16th century French Jeton, I found one with 4 fleur de lis within a diamond but it had more detail than yours as well as the reverse being completely different.

search around with French Jetons from those time periods, looks legit.

I agree with Fluke, it's probably a jeton (token).
The closer I could find to yours:

You can try to further research it in specialised sites, e.g.:

Definitely a french jeton, possibly 16th century?
Cant find the exactsame type.

maybe if you google search for: Jeton losange fleur de lys

I bought a few more from the same seller, One is quite large at around 53mm that seems to be a token of some kind!

There's also a spade guinea with the 'In memory of the good old days' inscribed!!  :D

Kind regards, John  :)
