I have like 200 of this coins which I should work on them tonight... I will try to lad the best ones... I have not yet categorize them so maybe the link to the coins will be missing until I can update during the week.

Lettering: 两 半

This are few of the ones I have... sadly my photo skills sucks!!!

I should be looking the ways how to improve than as some of them really miss the good looking of an old coin. even if they are damaged they look better than this pictures...

These ones are almost the same size besides the one on the top right, but they all have the same obverse.

I hope you enjoy! I have some of these coins available for swap... (not listed yet)

Nearly impossible to classify precisely, at least, for an amateur like me.  There are hundreds of varieties.  If you are really inclined to get the mint and year identified, try http://www.zeno.ru/showgallery.php?cat=1499 or http://japanesecashcoins.blogspot.com...
Back to Japan  :)

These are the so-called "Shin Kanei Tsuho-type" coins...

Imperial Japan: Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1868) AE mon, Kosuge Mint (Hartill-4.217; JNDA-72)

Obv: 寛永通寳 (Kan Ei tsu ho); cast 1859-1867
Rev: Blank

Imperial Japan: Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1868) AE 4 mon (Hartill-5.17; JNDA-2)

Obv: 文久永寳 (Bun Kyu ei ho); cast 1863-1868
Rev: 11 waves with broad rim around hole

Obv: 寛永通寶 (Kan Ei tsu ho)
Rev: 11 waves with broad rim around hole

Here is one that most collectors probably are not aware of.  This is from Sogdiana which was at the crossroads of the Silk Trade Route.  A very interesting culture that had elements of Indian, Greek, Chinese and Arabic:

Sogdiana, Principality of Samitan: Nanaiabiat Samidanian (ca. 700-800 CE) AE Cash (Fedorov: pl. 24, 1-6)

Obv: Sogdian legend around square hole, which can be translated as 'Nanaiabiat Samidanian', Samidan being the town's name, Nanaiabiat the ruler.
Rev: Tamgha each side of square hole. The identical tamghas are in the form of a semi-circle on a pedestal; small annulet in semi-circle.

Imperial Japan: Tokugawa Shogunate (1603-1868) AE mon, Osaka Mint (Hartill-4.198; JNDA-59)

Obv: 寛永通寳 (Kan Ei tsu ho); cast 1859-1867
Rev: 元 (gen) above on reverse

Eastern Sogdiana, Ikhshids of Samarqand: Imitation of Gurak (710-738) AE Cash (Smirnova-400)

Another interesting coin from the Silk Road. These coins are classified differently between Smirnova and Akhunbabaev. Smirnova indicates that these are imitation coins of Gurak and hence read the inscription as "wr`kk MLK". However, Akhunbabaev attributed these coins to Divashtish, ruler of Penjikent. In this case, the inscription is read as "prykk MLK" which indicates Afrig Ikhshid. The tamgha is the same as Tukaspadak's and Tarkhun's and differing from the tamgha of Gurak.

Imperial China, Ch'ing Dynasty: Xian Feng (1851-1861) FE 50 Cash, Board of Revenue, Peking (Hartill-22.702)

Obv: 咸豐重寶 Xian Feng zhong bao
Rev: Numbers for denomination above and below, mint left and right in Manchu; 當十五 ᠪᠣᠣ ᠴᡠᠸᠠᠨ; Dang wushi (Value Fifty) Boo chiowan

Imperial China, Ch'ing Dynasty: Xian Feng (1851-1861) FE 10 Cash, Baoding Mint (Hartill-22.1055)

Obv: 咸豐重寶 Xian Feng zhong bao
Rev: Numbers for denomination above and below, mint left and right in Manchu; 當十 ᠪᠣᠣ ᡷᡳ; Dang Shi (Value Ten) Boo jyi

Imperial China, Yuan Dynasty: Emperor Wu Zong 10 Cash, 1310-1311 (Hartill-19.46)

Obv: Ta Üen tung baw in Phags-Pa (ꡈꡝ ꡝꡦꡦꡋ ꡉꡟꡃ ꡎꡓ) = 大元通寶 Da Yuan tong bao
Rev: Blank

Note: Phags-Pa is written top-down and hence the whole inscription needs to be rotated 90 degrees clockwise. To mimic this behavior, Unicode encodes the letters rotated 90 degrees counter-clockwise. Finally, the inscription on the coin is read top, bottom, left and then right...

These coins are a great topic for a beginner since there are so many different varieties and most of them are quite common, i.e. inexpensive. They also give a fantastic insight into the history of the geo-political, socio-economic and history of what contemporary Europeans called the Far East.
