Fake or not?

Hello,

need another help, what do you think, is it genuine or a fake coin this Austrian 1815 20 Kreuzer? I don't like those small holes...

Any opinions are welcome!

Looks fake, but I have nothing to compare with

Hello,
Just to compare. Here are mine. They are not exactly the same coins, but same period.
Yours looks cast ???
Did you look at the edge ?

I'm not too concerned with the pock marks, they seem pretty common on venerable coins.  While it might be from casting, it could equally be from contamination in the silver alloy.

The wear is generally consistent with a real coin, i.e. the low relief portrait vanishes very quickly.

The only thing I can see out of place is the obverse lettering in "IMPERATOR" where the final five characters don't show the wear you would expect.

I'd have to say on balance real but I would gracefully concede if someone more familiar with such coins was to differ. Like Petrus, my only point of reference is a very worn out example which doesn't offer much to compare.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

It looks pretty good to me. Though, I would agree with André, that the rim could make or break my opinion. His coins are the minting before and after the one you are showing and I would assume that it would have the same rim (Krause does not specify 8. )

I would probably purchase that coin if it crossed my path and was at the right price.
I would have to say that looks very much like a casting, the wear is not consistant across the coin, I have not seen this coin cast before but from experience I have seen others that look very similar, it does look however to be made from silver.
Dear all Numista friends thanks for your opinions! Yes, I am even more convinced now that this is a fake coin. Most probably a contemporary fake, faux d'epoque, which has seen circulation during its time. I bought it in a lot with other genuine coins, and not a great loss for me.

Andre, the rim is not like on your coins, in some places it has traces of reeds, but on the majority no reeds, I am convinced this is a cast fake coin made to circulate, either in poor silver, or copper washed with silver. Interesting from the historically point of view, unless anyone collects contemporary fakes. Its weight is 5.60 gr, compared with Numista data 6.68 gr.

As some of you may know, I am focused on Austrian Empire coins, and have come to a conclusion that those coins were among the most faked ones for its period! I will post later a couple more Austrian Netherlands Kronenthalers for you to see!

But I have another 20 Kreuzer 1815, which I asume to be genuine, although worn, and its weight is only 4.61 gr How about this one?

That one looks a lot better, it looks like it has worn correctly,  is not covered in pitting, I would be more confident  that's a real coin, if I saw it I would have picked it up too.
