Spain 8 Reales coin with the Catholic Monarchs

5 posts
I can not find a catalog listing for this coin.  It should be from 1574 to about 1604.   It is 8 Reales with the Mint mark B.  It weighs 25.36 grams, is 40.5 mm wide and 2.0 mm thick.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'm afraid your coin isn't the real thing. The weight isn't right, the legend isn't right (CASTELLE in stead of CASTELE), there are some more differences and look at the condition. The coin on the site is sold for 2600 euros and compare the condition.

And this specimen is sold for 5000 $ in 2010:

I'm agree with the replica. But how can it be a Charles V when the legend says Ferdinandvs et Elisabet?

Charles V did not change the design of the coins of the Catholic Monarchs, except the type of the letters. The coins of Catholics Monarchs have gothic letters, and coins of Charles V are normal letters.

Nobody knows the first year of 8 reales coins, but must be between 1550 and 1555. The design was changed in 1566.
