Composition of coins

Outside coins themselves, I am also collecting the information of coins. Recently, I searched composition for a lot of types of coins.

I use wikipedia + google translate to obtain the information. Sometime I found the link to the mint of many countries, which provide a lot of helpful information.

For example,
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces12596.html
I found many unclear information, but I trust the Swedish wikipedia that the composition of this coin is: Outer layer (46.5%) Cupronickel / Inner layer (53.5%) Nickel, which I calculated and got 6.186875 grams of Nickel and 3.313125 grams of copper. // [3.313125gCu|6.186875gNi/9.5g]

but for the similar piece, I need more information.
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2752.html
The Numista say it is simple Cupronickel. So, I consider the information of this coin is still unclear.

Also, the German Deutsche Mark coins:
50 Pfennig - Cupronickel (75Cu25Ni) 1949~2001
1 Deutsche Mark - Cupronickel (75Cu25Ni) 1950~2001
2 Deutsche Mark - Cupronickel (75Cu25Ni) 1951, 1957~1971 Max Planck Type
2 Deutsche Mark - "Magnimat-7" 1969~2001 (6 Types)
5 Deutsche Mark - "Magnimat" 1975~2001
I found the information about the composition of 2 Deutsche Mark 1969~2001, which is call "Magnimat-7". I need someone to verify if I calculated the metal correctly or not. I found only sentence says "Magnimat of 2 Deutsche Mark contain 7% core of pure nickel, plated with Cupronickel (75Cu25Ni)". So I consider that the remaining 93 % is Cupronickel (75Cu25Ni). The weight of a 2 Deutsche Mark coin is 7 grams. So the pure nickel core weights 0.49 gram, remaining 6.51 grams of Cupronickel: 4.8825 grams of copper and 1.6275 grams of nickel. So, thecomposition of a 2 Deutsche Mark coin is: 4.8825 grams of copper and 2.1175 grams of nickel. // [4.8825gCu|2.1175gNi/7g]
But I don't find any good information about the composition of 5 Deutsche Mark coin. I would like more information.

I would be grateful if anyone can share the information.

Thanks in advance for help!

Hi Sak,

The German Schön World Coin Catalogue says, the 5 Kronor KM#853 (Schön#75) is Copper-nickel clad Nickel since 1976. So it might be "Magnimat" like the 5 Kronor Coins KM#846 (Schön#66).  https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces6195.html

So it is shown on the official Website:
http://www.riksbank.se/en/Notes--coins/Coins/Valid-coins/5-krona-coin/
They also say its a multy-layer-material.

If you have this coins, you can test it with a simple magnet.
The Swedish 5 Kronor Coins react as strong as the German 2 and 5 Mark Magnimat Coins.
I just tested mine: KM#853 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1988 and KM#846 1972 -> all the same reaction.

I made a change request at the Numista Catalogue.

Greetings

Lars
Hello Lars,

Thank you for information. So, The 5 Kronor KM#853 is a long series since 1976 - no changing material. Do you have any good website that show the percentage of composition of coins? (In German is OK, because I cannot google in German Language.)

Greetings,
Sak

I am interested for magnetic properties of 75Cu25Ni.
Reason: i have one 1 Deutsche Mark 1982 Bundesrepublik Deutschland 5,5g Diameter 2,35cm 2mm thick and this coin is non magnetic. I have no other DM coins to compare with this.

Sorry, I didn't see this topic earlier. The English wiki is correct. The official Belgian catalogue says a 94 % core of Fe with on both sides 3 % Ni.

This alloy is normally not magnetic.
