So, there are a few definitions for what a "crown" is. Properly, it's a large silver British pre-decimal coin worth 5 shillings, or 1/4 of a pound. However, since decimalization, these have been made with a value of 25 pence (later increased to 5 pounds). And some people apply this definition to any large silver coin (such as silver dollars or silver pesos or silver 5-franc coins). To make things more confusing, some crowns aren't even made of silver, such as the British 1951 crown made of copper-nickel, and numerous copper-nickel coins from 1960s Africa. Still, everyone loves large coins, so I thought I would make a thread for showing them off in.
So... post a large-sized coin, silver or copper-nickel! The only rule here is that it must be large, it must be heavy, and it must be made out of gray metal; use your own best judgment.
I'll start with three of my recent additions:
Jamaica, 5 shillings, 1966. This commemorates the Commonwealth Games in Jamaica. Also, interestingly, it was manufactured at the private Sherritt Mint, which is only a few kilometers away from me.
Dominican Republic, 1 peso, 1897. This coin is quite large but it's a trick; it's only 0.3500 silver. Even though it's worn, it's not unattractive; an eBay search shows that most of these coins are in G condition or worse, so mine's not even unusually worn. Strange, maybe people held on to their money in the Dominican Republic.
Southern Rhodesia, 1 crown, 1953. This is a beautiful coin that's been very high up on my most-wanted list for a long time; I was very very close to buying it on eBay for about $50, but then this one appeared at yesterday's coin show for $20. Probably my eyes bugged out of my head. Cecil Rhodes was one of Britain's leading colonists and served as the Prime Minister of the Cape Colony; he saw British influence expand ever northward and prevented the Portuguese from connecting Mozambique and Angola (thus preventing Southern Rhodesia from being called Rodésia do Sul), and he is the namesake of Southern Rhodesia.
This coin is interesting for some other reasons. Some people say that the 1965 Churchill crown (which someone will inevitably post here) is the first British coin to feature a non-royal on it. Well, it is if you don't count the colonies; clearly, this coin has the Churchill crown beat by 12 years.
Anyway, I hope to see some other large coins in this thread; happy posting! Try not to post duplicates and try not to post everything in your collection at once.
I wish I had my coins with me to post a couple of mine! For now I'll say that the Cecil Rhodes piece is also high on my list even though it's sort of out of the scope of my collection. It's a pretty cool coin and you got a great deal!
Mmmm... too many; and too lazy to scan them. I have a 2.5" x 2.5" double stacks box (two long 2.5x2.5 boxes inside a bigger box that holds both and that you can close) filled to 90% with 38mm+ coins (I guess that is what makes a Crown-size). I think all are Silver and a few CuNi ones; no other metal there.
Several Mexican 8Reales and big Un Peso. And 2, 5, 10 and 100 Silver ones. Plus all big coins I've gotten from swaps.

I have a bag full (mainly UK but some others). These (most made out of gray metal) crown-sized shown below are images I have already taken. Will add more images at the weekend of other coins I have.
Here are a few of mine including the commemorative crowns posted here. (sadly that type is worthless, nice to look at though and make great gap fillers)
I have only been collecting now for about 2 months so my crown collection is still growing.

Like many others on this thread, I have a load of crown-sized coins, including this run of UK £5 BUNCs from 2002 to 2012 (I stopped collecting £5 commems in 2012 because the Royal Mint were churning them out like chump change!):
However, this one has to be my favourite, a 1933 Wreath Crown, UK KM#836: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces8475.html

Yeah but it does have a few schocs , cracked die and has on the top of the rim a trace of jewelry mount. So it does reduce its value by quite a bit.

My first one of the four, years ago, must have been the 1967 crown I guess, as that has the highest (125,000) mintage. But was surprised to see the other three only have 40,000 each year.
Well done to the topic creator as I am now obsessed with crowns, again! I had quite a few already (as earlier postings on here show) and in recent weeks have got more. Today I received another (Falklands) crown, and tomorrow arrives an Isle of Man > https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces39205.html https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces35673.html
I will add pictures of both tomorrow evening.
EDIT: (Next day) Here are both ...
Not sure why the Falklands had a nice image of the Queen and a poor one of William & Catherine. The coin with the Spitfire is my second one - earlier I added the one I have from 2007 Gibraltar.
Not quite a Crown but close enough. My one and only double florin, arrived in tonight's post. It really did take me this long to find the right coin, in the right condition at the right price. (the price was so "right" I feel slightly guilty)
The photo's don't do it justice, the artificial lighting has obscured a lot of the detail. I'll take some better ones in natural light before putting it in my Crown album. It's a nicely circulated EF with nicely toned, natural surfaces. I'm quite pleased with it.

Three crown-sized (1 Dollar) coins from New Zealand arrived yesterday; I already had the 1970 one (on the right) as previously shown, but got the item as I did not have the other two ...
Also, from that second image, the Comments section for each of the coins now has descriptions and history details. Took me hours to type it out.
EDIT: Two more days later (now Sunday) and just won 8 more crowns - from one seller ...
and each of the two lots cost £0.99 so for 8 crowns that is less than face value! Admittedly I already have all 5 in the second lot, and 1 of the first lot; so 2 new to me are ... https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces16052.html Guernsey 1980 https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces18737.html Gibraltar 1980
and maybe the other coins might be in better condition than those I already have.
EDIT: Now Wednesday and the eight coins arrived. The two I did not have are ...

The five-piece Crown set arrived today. Mentioned earlier with links [1979 Isle of Man].
All have the same obverse, so only shown once.
EDIT: Now next day (Tuesday evening) and I just bought 16 more (four sets of four) from one seller, and I think I need help! I am making a list of just copper-nickel crowns and it is over 500 available, and I've got nowhere near that many, but will have to stop soon.
Tonight's purchases (images from seller, until the coins arrive here) are ...
EDIT: Thursday afternoon and the 16 coins arrived; plus I didn't realise the seller was in the Isle of Man, as they came in a Jiffy bag with lovely stamps on from there ...
a total of 13 stamps, 3 of which were duplicates, so 10 different ones. Curiously they have really old dates on them (1976 1978 1979 1986) but I guess they were still usable.
Wow, I have only one of those coins in the picture still in my collection, I have swapped everything else.
