Translation of lettering and general comments in the coin catalog

Hello all,

Numista catalog has just been improved with two new fields: translation of the lettering in foreign languages into English and general comments about the coin or its history.

Theses pieces of information will be better displayed, and they don't need to be entered inside the description.
The aim as well is to have more and more translations and comments, explanations, historical background, etc. in Numista, because I think that's a very interesting part when checking a coin catalog.

Here is an example of a coin using these new fields:

Nice! :)
Does the comment field support BB Code?
Ah, this is really excellent, especially the general comment section.
I agree with the general comments section.  This has been needed for a while.  Now we can start migrating comments from the other fields.  This is really a positive change that will be helpful for many things.
Thanks for this great update, it is awesome! But it would be even better if the pictures could be uploaded to the comment section. Can you do that, please?

Kuna

To explain varieties, hope it can be done.

That is what I have asked  0:)
the Buletin Board Code for example :
[URL=Link[IMG]LinkThumb[IMG][URL]  + the 2 / (noparse doesn't work)
Great additions to the coin page .. !!!

Some more additions/changes would be fantastic ... Would be

In "Overall information", change the field formatting for "KM number" so that is will accept some thing like F#645.13A  or M# 28234.11

In "Technical data", add a field for APMC (Actual Precious Metal Content) and change the field formatting of Weight, Diameter and Thickness to accept something like 16.55 (±xx.xx) or 30.00 (+0.35)

In "Obverse" and "Reverse", change the field "Engraver" to "Engraver/Sculptor" and add a field above it for "Artist/Designer"

Sorry, I didn't understand BB.

Also if the bullion price can be added for other metals like Paladium, Platinum...

BB code is not supported yet. I'm a bit reluctant to preserve a unified style, but I can see a great potential to explain the variant for instance. Perhaps the solution is a restricted BB code, I will work on this.

I agree we need this. I will work on it.

I also want to implement this, but I'm not sure how this should be done. I personally don't know what are M# numbers and F# numbers. I think the solution would be to allo multiple reference numbers, and for each, you'll need to select the name of the reference book. This is not very clear to me yet, so perhaps I will need more time.

Could you please provide an example of coin where this could be useful, and what would be the associated APMC? Strictly speaking, it should be equivalent to weight+fineness.

Good idea!

I'm not sure for this one. I think we rarely have the need for both the engraver and the designer. In such cases, I would suggest to write both names in the field "engraver". Another solution is to writhe only the engraver's name in the field "engraver" and have the designer's name in the field "description".

Sure, I will do. Do you need more metals than silver, gold, paladium and platinium?

M#= Menzel catalog     F#= Funck Catalog

Most any coin listed in the SCWC that has precious metal in it, usually has the actual precious metal  weight listed. If silver, ASW.  If gold, AGW.  Using APMC would include Ag, Au, Pt and Pd

example: http://www.cbr.ru/eng/bank-notes_coins/Base_of_memorable_coins/ShowCoins.aspx?cat_num=5217-0017

This coin has a total weight of 15.72 (±0.15). At .999 fine the AGW should be 15.704g, but the listing gives not lest than 15.55g, which would have to be written as ≥15.50.  Therefore doing the fineness x total weight does not always give the correct APMC.

Going through the Central Bank of Russia adding coin and doing modification requests, the best majority of coin from 1993 have list both the artist/designer and sculptor/engraver.

The only other one that I could think of would be copper. But no big deal if it's not added.

I think that is mostly it because these are only precious metals.

This is the best addition so far, Brilliant!  I have long suggested /waited for it. Also if in future additional pictures can be uploaded then finally we have a place to show variants. So that the comments like "big lettering"  "small lettering " can be seen on picture to know which variants we really own.
Thank you.
Hello,
Bullion value has been added for platinum and palladium coins.
BB coode and photos will come soon for the comments field.

Ok, thank you vary much for this addition. Also I have one question. In this translation field, should I translate everything, as for example: REPUBLIKA HRVATSKA => Republic of Croatia ?

Kuna

Yes, that's exactly the purpose of the translation field.
Hello,

It's now possible to format coin comments and to include pictures, to illustrate variants for example. The syntax is the same as on the forum.

Note that at the same time I simplified the syntaxto display pictures hosted on Numista. You can see this by using the button "Image" in your next post on the forum.
This is a great development and very timely... I've been trying to squeeze in images into the edge image area.. :D  :D . Now i can move those and display at decent size... Thanks Xavier!

Nice - I tested it out this afternoon, and added pictures for varieties of these coins, for example ...
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces787.html  Spain 1 Peseta - two comments
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5824.html  UK 1/2 Penny
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces857.html  UK 1 Penny
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces578.html  UK 1 Penny - two comments
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces13406.html  UK 5 Pounds
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5188.html  Ireland 1/2 Crown

EDIT: Some others, added as I find them (and if I own the coins to make images from) ...
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces13526.html  Isle of Man 1 Pound
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces17034.html  UK 50 Pence
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5628.html  UK 20 Pence
Token collector [1600-1899] with some coins
I've been using it to add pictures of original packaging.

Maybe one day Numista will have a special function for displaying information on official multi-coin mint sets? 0:)
