Date of Nepalese coin

6 posts
I finally got this one identified. It is not in numista yet and I'll add it soon.  I am having problems figuring out the date on my example.  I suspect that the characters for the numbers maybe different than what I am looking at in the catalog.  Can anyone comment, or at least tell me what side the date is on?  Thanks.

Weight: 10.49 g
Composition: Copper or Bronze
Size: 25 mm

The date is in Arabic at the bottom of the reverse..... Looks like  1844
Interesting, so the dating is in Vikram Samvat, but the numbers are Arabic?  Or Krause has it wrong.  I don't quite see the Arabic numbers, I must be tired.   :Zz:  Nepalese coins will be the death of me.  Seems every time I have a coin I can't figure out, it ends up being from Nepal.
The date is in Hyderabad arabic.
It is partially off-flan (I think)
As far I can see it is completely in arabic.

Rijkdom bestaat niet uit het hebben van veel bezittingen, maar in het hebben van weinig behoeften
Okay, that looks pretty obvious now.  Hyderabad Arabic, I'll have to keep that in mind next time.  I thought Nepal was far enough away it that I was looking at the wrong script.  I guess I keep learning with these coins.  It doesn't help much that I don't have a lot of knowledge in Indian/Nepal history and I am just teaching myself as I go.

Dating these coins can be complicated.
