Divus Claudius II, Antoninianus, Rome
DIVO CLAVDIO
Radiate head right
CONSECRATIO
Eagle standing facing, head right, wings spread close, head up to right, tail right
11mm x 14mm, 1.07g
RIC V, Part I, 266 for type (C)
Ex Triton VIII, Lot 2079, January 2005; Ex Tony Hardy Collection
Note: Although parts of the legend are off the flan, this piece is only a few millimeters undersized for the die, making this a peculiar coin. The style is good and the legends on the flan appear to be correct, so this coin is approximately 2/3 sized of a regular antoninianus.
