I recently purchased these two coins to complete my US State Quarter collection.
They were sold as UNC. Both of them have some scratches which are easily visible for the human eye.
I know they can have some minor 'production faults' but in my opinion they were 'too visible' and therefor I contacted the seller and asked him whether or not it is possible to swap them out for some 'better' ones.
The guy got pretty rude right away...
Personally I find sometimes recent coins in my wallet which show some wear but less scratches - that's why I would be interested what you guys think - would you still consider them UNC?
Hi Chris
They could be from a bag. The mint after they make them drop in big bags. Thus its called bag marks. Done by the mint. They can get really scrated up when they are moved to banks. Or other places. I have a US roll of pennys 2013 D unopened . But the mint did not roll them loomis did,So they machines could have scrated them up or shipping a bag of pennys from the mint to them could have done a number on them. But they are still UNC. They are going to have sub grades for UNC coins.
I have few bags of certain coins, never opened in original bags. im always even afraid to move them because i know each time they get some minor scratches.... in bank they just throw the bags around however they please, so they are never without tiny scratches already then.
But even so, if thats the case with your coins, the seller should have just explained you that. that is no reason to get rude with you and if he was rude then the chances are they weren't even from bags but just looking good enough to seller to try and flog them as UNC.
some countries with reach numismatic history usually take a part of coins right from the mint/struck desk, and they go to the capsules, covers, etc.. they are really Brilliant UNC, or FDC ( french). BUt most so-called UNC coins are from bank bags, of course.
