Hi!

I recently get a 1981 proof set, and I don't know if it's normal, but aren't this 50 details too much smooth for a proof coin? :.

What do you think?

Thanks,

Antoine

Is it a poof set or mint set. I mess up on that last week. It looks like a mint set. Tony will know.
It is, what it is, or is it.
It's a proof set, mint set are only produced since 1982 (uncirculated sets).

It looks like there not enough detail on it for a poof. I would ask Tony.
It is, what it is, or is it.
I have the same set and the detail of the coin is the same the  frosted 'proof' finish is evident when the coins are viewed at an angle
I always wanted to be someone, now I realise I should have been more specific.
It is correct and looks worse due to the fact it has some toning and the flash from the camera. I will post pictures tomorrow of the 2 sets that I have.

It's not a proof there is no frosting to the lion, here's my coin here.

It's frosted Tony :)   The picture wasn't showing it but it is.

It's like I said earlier, they look poor due to the toning and poor photography (mine also). I will try a little experiment today and post a new picture.
tried a little experiment by cleaning with acetone and made no difference at all. here is the before and after pics.

In this type of cases, the coins take a bad toning I think, they loss their brilliant, but it can be removed easily... justa take care to not make hairlines...

Sorry, off topic here ...

But it always makes me chuckle when Tony talks about frosting

I'm not an expert in any kind of coins, but I reckon I'm good at research and will do my best to help. Feel free to tell me my identifications/valuations/gradings are wrong. It's the only way I'll learn.
