Hey people, this is my first post on here. Im Adrian, 24. I went metal detecting today with my partner and we discovered this coin/token. We just cannot think what it is, so I wondering if any of you guys might be able to help us identify it please? I have put it between a 1p and 2p for size comparison.
Many thanks, Adrian :)
Cheap little medals like this were sold to the masses on special events like coronations, royal weddings, royal funerals, exhibitions, etc. This one is for the accession of Victoria; she became queen immediately on the death of her uncle William IV in June 1837; the formal coronation did not take place until a year later. The use of a very youthful-looking portrait with her hair tied up indicates this was indeed issued very early in her reign.
